The Q&A includes an answer about the future sales potential of the Persona series.

Q: Is there a chance that, with its overseas popularity, the Persona series could sell 5 million copies in its first year?
A: By increasing the number of platforms it is available on and the regions it is released in, we have been increasing the sales of Persona 5. We believe that it would be possible for a major Persona title, such as a numbered release, to sell 5 million copies in its first year by releasing it on multiple platforms and simultaneously worldwide from day one.

We also have high expectations for the new IP Metaphor: ReFantazio from the developers of Persona 5.
In their FY Ending March 2024 Q1 Q&A session, Sega stated that the Persona series was one that they had high expectations for, with the likely expectation that Persona 3 Reload would sell over 1 million copies.

As per last reported numbers, no individual Persona release has yet to sell over 5 million. Between the original release and the remastered port, Persona 5 Royal will have sold at least 4 million copies as of the last reported figures in April 2023, with the Persona 5 series having sold over 9 million copies sold worldwide.

Well now we know Sega is more delusional than fucking SE.

5 million really?

FFVII Remake barely sold 7 million the first year and fucking Persona want to sell 5 millions?

Even if it both on next Nintendo platform and PS5 launch day and launching on all markets at launch, still doubting it cracks above 3.5 millions in a year.

So it won't be on GP day 1. That we know. The fact that SEGA knows what's important in this biz i.e. units sold/rev generated gives me confidence they won't fuck up and sell to Microsoft.

They couldn't if they wanted to. They are in one of the categories that forbids being sold to a foreign company by Japanese government.

Is Capcom?

If Sega is, then Capcom likely are. Besides, Capcom is family-owned and they aren't likely to ever sell those family-owned shares. But it would 100% be smart of Sony to buy shares in them and maybe have a SIE executive seek employ there (or join the BoD).

Yes. Pretty much all the big game publishers fall into the "Culturally significant" category which is banned from foreign ownership mainly to prevent Chinese propaganda from being worked into the products of big, trusted Japanese entertainment companies.

Still doesn't prevent Saudi to scoop a bunch of shares though.
