The upcoming return of Crazy Taxi will be a "AAA" game, Sega has said. Sega first announced it was making a long-awaited new Crazy Taxi title in December last year, as part of a new wave of entries in many of its classic series. Now, a Japan Times interview has shed more light on its scope, and revealed it is being worked on in part by Sega's relatively new Sapporo Studio, which was founded in the capital of Japan's Hokkaido prefecture in December 2021.

By SEGA standards I take that to mean it’ll at least look decent. Better than a simple remake.

If it was a Yakuza crossover, maybe it could work... Imagine Ichiban or Kiryu as a taxi driver and owner of a taxi fleet.

But for some reason they were in no hurry to spend AAA resources on Yakuza, where there are many unvoiced dialogues and very cheap extraneous "cutscenes".

Why would one spend AAA money on Crazy Taxi? It's not like you can have this beautiful cinematic story mode with that IP. Just fucking release a good ol' fun game. An indie studio could pull a decent crazy taxi game with a few million, it's not that convoluted.
