I realise we were so into it largely because we got to explore Springfield (even if some might say it's a stretch to say this game represents the town that great), and because our options for kid-friendly open world games were much more scarce than they are today.
Replaying it now without the nostalgia goggles, I now see how bad the game is. It's fun to check the "gags" and cards hidden in a level, but you quickly realise how barren the world is and how little content there actually is.
the missions are one of three things.
1) Collecting items.
2) Evading or damaging vehicles
3) Racing them.
Repetitive beyond belief.
The last three missions in the game are the exact same, just with one difference each (one has a smaller timer, one has you being chased while still on a timer), and while this mission is fairly challenging, you can still complete the entire game as a beginner in only a few hours.
