In an unexpected turn of events, Sony has shard an update on the upcoming movie based on Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda IP.
During its CES 2024 press conference, Sony had some interesting words to share regarding the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie. According to the company’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, the film based on Nintendo’s IP will deliver “an amazing tale of adventure and discovery”.
Of course, this praise from Sony for Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda didn’t come out of nowhere. Both companies are working together to make a live action movie based on the beloved video game series. The film is being made under the supervision of none other than legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo, and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., who has produced many mega hit films.
The movie is being produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film is being co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. The theatrical distribution of the film will be done worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. As such, Sony’s words of praise for The Legend of Zelda movie are partly due to its own involvement and stake in the production.
