Sony says it "welcomes the announcement" by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority that it will further investigate Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

In a statement to GamesIndustry.Biz, the platform holder said that "by giving Microsoft control of Activision games like Call of Duty, this deal would have major negative implications for gamers and the future of the gaming industry".

"We want to guarantee PlayStation gamers continue to have the highest quality gaming experience," Sony continued, "and we appreciate the CMA's focus on protecting gamers."

UPDATE: In a statement to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson said "It makes zero business sense for Microsoft to remove Call of Duty from PlayStation given its market leading console position."

Nobody is buying the Sony theater dramatics. It's not Microsoft's fault that Sony pulled themselves out of multiple types of genres or sub-genres and then cry foul because Microsoft is buying a publisher who has a game within that genre.

They had multiple shooter franchises and made the personal decision to no longer make them for whatever reason. They're just getting pissy because if Call of Duty goes away they now have to make a personal investment instead of riding the coattails of someone else's game and getting free money.

Boo hoo.

With all the nonsense that Sony is spewing I almost wish that after this acquisition goes through Microsoft just voids all of their contracts and tells them to eat it.

"Market leading console position" So what happens if sony isnt the market leader?

I said this before and i applaud sony for taking this public, but i hope this doesnt effectivly make sony pause on acquisitions of their own because thats what optically it seems like theyd have to do.

Sony already screwed themselves, they've made acquisitions over the course of this Activision deal and are on record as the saying they will be making more. They have no ammunition, their only concern is losing on a free revenue stream where they have to make no personal investment.

If sony really wanted to pull a stunt, at the game awards they should have a rep (or kieghly himself if he was up for it) go on stage and ask the whole xbox team to their face if cod will remain on playstation.

Since Sony obviously only cares about the money that they would be getting from COD and if concessions are made for COD, if I was Microsoft, I would release COD completely free on all platforms and I would say - well, it's for the gamers so enjoy!!! lmao

This is ridiculous at this point. I wish Sony and MS would stop talking about this.

Can we merge this into all one big thread? I actually had a thought if we wanted to chronologically have a history of the series of events it would be a cool wild thread to come back to when this is all said and done.

Someone would be able to see the back and forth from both companies if we had it all in one thread?

How deluded can someone be? What Multi-platform developer did Sony buy huh?

2019: Insomniac (always developed only for PS, only exception Sunset Overdrive)

2021: Housemarque (Small Studio and Always only PS)

2021: Nixxes Software (Small Porting Studio)

2021: Firesprite (previous PS developers and pretty much exclusive for Sony)

2021: Valkyrie Entertainment (Small Porting Studio)

2022: Haven Studios (Small and freshly founded)

2022: Bungie (Big but staying Multi-platform and independent from SIE)

2022: Repeat.gg (Esports platform)

Microsoft on the other hand:

2018: Complusion Games (was a Multi-platform
Studio)

2019: DoubleFine Productions (was a Multi-platform Studio)

2018: InXile (was a Multi-platform Studio)

2018: NinjaTheory (was a Multi-platform Studio)

2018: Obsidian Entertainment (was a Multi-platform Studio)

2021: Bethesda (Big Publisher which was always Multi)

2022: Activision Blizzard (Very big Publisher which was always Multi)

Who do you want to fool?

Why you even bother lol we all know Dynamitecop is in the Xbox insider rewards program, of course he's going to schill for them, he gets free things for every negative Sony comment. For his last comment alone he probably got an autographed copy of Crackdown 3 from Phil sent to him 😂(even though tht wouldn't be much of a reward).

🤣🤣💯💯

It doesn't matter, Xbox was smaller before any of those acquisitions were made. It also shows that Sony is hypocritical of competitor expansion while they at the same time are expanding and are actively trying to stifle their competition from doing the same.

Sony already shot themselves in the foot.

This will go through probably but Platforms buying huge Publishers and so many AAA Ip’s is Not gonna be good for the industry. Especially when they have shown lack of ability to manage other studios and Ips

Major negative implications for Sony and their wallet, yes.
A significant portion of Activision's future games will not be on Playstation when they would have otherwise.

So unless Microsoft just makes Activision 10 time's better, to make it worth gamer's money to buy an Xbox or something... then yeah it's not good for gamers either.

Sony are full of shit hypocrites just like every big corp but they aren't wrong on this stuff.
