What is Japanese for "Chad"?

There's a reason why companies like Apple want to keep their system completely closed: The more people using that system exclusively, the more they need to put in that system, and the more dependant they become of it.

Nintendo knows that having their games only on their consoles ensures that people invest in their ecosystem, including their store. They also get a cut of those purchases.

There's a very big difference between being exclusively a software publisher and a hardware owner + software publisher. Nintendo and Sony are both, and one of them is trying to chase short term profits over long term gains by porting their exclusive software.

The only software that makes sense to port to PC is live service games, which Nintendo pretty much doesn't have.

As he is talking about Nintendo, he is right. You don't play Nintendo consoles, you put up with them.

What else can Nintendo do other than holding some games hostage as competitive advantage? Offer a modern online infrastructure? modern hardware? Better production values?

They never end up having the best version of their own games down the line.

you don't understand. it is life-or-death that Nintendo get 30% from the worst version of every 3rd party game.

Yes, Nintendo is the only platform where exclusives represent the majority of sales. In all the other gaming platforms most game sales and revenue are from 3rd party multiplatform.

And well, they only have games in their own console and mobile so it's obvious they'll say this, specially when they are pretty profitable even if they generate way less revenue than Sony and several other gaming companies.

The lack of important 3rd party / multiplatforms support made them sell less every home console since the NES (with Wii as exception), and they now only have their portable one. They have been very successful this gen, but one of the reasons was the lack of competition in portable consoles, but PC handhelds will steal part of that market. And if MS moves away from making their own hardware, Sony will become stronger and more popular, so maybe will eat Nintendo market, specially when they will start releasing mobile games and game streaming on mobile and PS Portable.

Well done to Nintendo. Take note Sony.

Playstation had it biggest sale of 1st party games during PS4 era. They like Nintendo really don’t need to go on PC. They always got a good boost of console sales when a major PS studio or exclusive came out. Horizon, Spiderman, God of War etc

Playstation can improve its 3rd party relations but they should also boost and not forget there 1st party games. Since PS3, exclusives play a big part for the fans and keeping them on the PS Platform away from PC/Xbox/Nintendo and other platforms. They did for me on PS4 too

If Xbox is out of the HW race I would like Nintendo to slug it out vs Sony with a proper follower to the SNES. Nintendo back on the power game would be something new for many.

Switch 2 will sell a lot but it would be the first time since the SNES where Nintendo just adds more power to the formula without innovating. Maybe the Switch 2 has a few surprises?

I look forward to a proper Nintendo home console within the next 7 years in the physical absence of Xbox hardware or practical death of the platform come the new gen. More than ready to jump ship ecosystem wise. Xbox is in its deathbed and Sony is vulnerable, with poor leadership.
