Steam's new pricing policy for Latin America and the MENA region came in yesterday. Valve followed through on its promise to change Steam's regional pricing for Argentina and Turkey on November 20, meaning games in those countries will now be priced in US dollars instead of the Turkish lira and Argentine peso:

About an hour ago, the changes have been applied. As expected many developers and publishers haven't even bother updating their prices so now some games cost the same as they do in the US. Plus we also pay an extra 100% in taxes.

Steam has a suggested price which is already higher to what they used to be, yet it is up to the developers to use it or not. They can set the price to whatever they want and if no price has been set US prices are assigned by default.

Is this good? I know Argentina has always dealt with exchange rate issues concerning video games.

Since I'm from Argentina, I put together a list of pricing differences (both AAA and indies) before and after the conversion from ARS to USD. We are fucked in most of cases, but the ones that hurts us the most are probably $15-20 indies: https://www.pcmrace.com/2023/11/20/steam-dolares-argentina/
I read that the new president in your country gonna switch from Peso to US dollars.

So seem like Steam moves bit faster?

Yes, eventually that's the plan, but according to him (Javier Milei), the transition from Peso to USD will take between 18 to 24 months to be done properly. People including myself are very happy he won. The other candidate, Sergio Massa, who ironically is the current minister of economy and squandered two points of GDP on his campaign (with money from the taxes we pay, of course), destroyed the country's economy and currency with a year-on-year inflation of 150%, so that's pretty much why Valve decided to replace Argentino Peso with "LATAM USD".

That guy doesn't have a strong congressional party and is going to have to negotiate a lot in order to do anything on anything. That said, Argentina is in an awful place financially, so on that they might not have much choice.

So you got a crazy prize increase, you have to pay 100% in taxes (21% here in Spain) and I assume on top of that you have to convert from your currency to dollars, which I assume it also has a cost.

Te acompaño en el sentimiento, hermano. ¡Un abrazo!
