I know he has a hate grudge against Sony & dooming the PS console but it’s not a bad read especially now that PS is porting there games to PC I have to agree slightly that PS in the future will be in a dangerous position where there platform/hardware has no identity & true permanent exclusive to buy in or invest in whole other platforms like Valve further integrate there own hardware Steamdeck & Pc together making a really stronger ecosystem platform all while having both Xbox & PS games + PC default exclusive & Steam own first party games almost everything in gaming is under valve/steam roof thoe same can’t be said for PS own platform/hardware. Even things like PSVR is now folding into PC where Valve & Steam ultimately benefits & gets folded under the Valve/Steam hardware (Steamdeck).
While I don’t fully agree, I can say Sony/PS doesn’t do there best job in not diminishing its platform for short term profit/growth instead of looking at the long term future & maybe by itself can be a whole thread on the future of PS & the industry with many speculative timelines.
Valve/Steam isn’t just a threat to PS I’d say there a threat to MS/Windows & I can see a future where Steam & Linux completely replace the Windows os as Steam becomes default & favored w developers more specifically game/entertainment developers. I fully expect MS/Xbox to pull games off the steam storefront as the only way MS can make windows competitive w Steam/Linux is again having exclusive content/benefits I don’t see MS unchecking Valve/Steam position in the PC realm.
Nintendo will be fine as long as they don’t change there stance in exclusive & diminishing its platform/hardware/storefront. It all comes back to exclusive games & that being true permanent exclusive content you can’t get nowhere else & that’s not the case for Xbox & PS sadly.
I can see Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon become bigger players in gaming/entertainment aswell since they all have the same ambitions
