  • Kaitlyn Dever's Abby needed extra security while filming The Last of Us season 2 due to the controversial nature of her character.
  • Abby is a divisive character due to one specific plot point from the video game.
  • Dever's casting has already proved somewhat controversial due to her physical differences from how Abby is portrayed in The Last of Us Part II.

Abby remains a controversial character from the games, and as Merced explains, this makes Dever herself a target. To head off any potential threats, it was ensured that the actor had some extra protection. Check out Merced's comment below:

“There are people that actually genuinely hate Abby, who is not a real person. Just a reminder, not a real person. And so Kaitlyn had to be extra secured by security when it came to the filming of this.”

They needed extra security on the set? This means they were scared someone inside the staff would attack her for some reason?

That makes no sense.

Seems like a lame attempt to garner sympathy for the character ahead of the scene. I doubt anyone in 2024 cares enough to harm the actress for simply portraying Abby.

They needed extra security on the set?

Depends on what "needing extra security" means.

Did they "need extra security" because there's a bunch of people who dislike the videogame character? Nah.

Did they "need extra security" because of the free advertisement they're getting for the series? Spend $1K to have a guy there a couple hours a week on set and you've got yourself the ad deal of the decade. $1K to get the mainstream media talking about your series is just good business.
