The film will be co-produced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto, Aaron Horvath, and Michael Jelenic – the director of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 was announced on Mario Day 2024 (Mar10 Day 2024). Meledandri announced that storyboarding and set design for the movie were already underway, adding that they “start animation soon. And rest assured, we’ll be obsessing over every detail to ensure that we get it just right.” Also announced was the Paper Mario RPG‘s release date, set for May 23, 2024.
