It's great to see Sony offering ways to expand the ways you can play your PlayStation 5 and I hope they continue to pursue this line of thinking.

While the PlayStation portal looks great and seems to have a feel of quality, I would make two simple changes to increase functionality and lifespan of the device.

First, I would make the two controller portions removable, so they can be replaced, fixed and so the device can be transported more easily.

Then I think it would be cool if the PS5 had a way to dock the PS Portal screen on its own, charging it while using it as a second screen to change options and display in game maps on the fly. It could also be used as an ambient light or to display an animated PlayStation logo.

Do you think these changes would be helpful or are they needless?

So you want a Nintendo Switch 😂 I do agree that removable controllers is a great idea, but I think that giving it a dock strays too far from what the device was created to do. With the exception of staying in a hotel, I can't see many situations where you'd be away from home but have access to a TV to connect and play with the Portal

like @toadsage44 said, you're just asking for an online only Switch and Wii U 🤣

Removable controls would ruin the ergonomics, but removable analog sticks like the DualSense Edge would be amazing. And having it be dockable defeats its entire purpose and would probably too much work for gimmicky features. But in a similar vein, allowing it to double as an extra DualSense controller would also be a great value add feature.

Totally needless, as they would increase costs tremendously and introduce new points of failure.

I would like a smaller 6.4" OLED. Or maybe 7". It would make it lighter and have more battery life. It would be nice to have detachable thumbsticks like in the edge but if it's easier to replace than the default dualsense that's ok.

Good point. It's a popular product, and currently the best handheld. So yeah. The portal leaves a lot to be desired so any improvements over time will be appreciated by its consumers.

From a strategic standpoint I was on board with it in any way shape or form cause PlayStation owners must have an alternative for on-the-go gaming, and not allow the Steamdeck to be that only option besides the Switch and fill the market hole of the PSP/VITA. You can live with Nintendo and the Switch. Valve's Steam is not a company Sony's PlayStation will be able to co-exist with, same as with Xbox - it's a tug war to the bitter end. The core leadership of these two other companies are completely hostile, and reductionist - no matter what bs you ever read.

PS1 and PSP emulator. Allow user to download some of those games and linked with playable trophies.
