They do; just look at Xbox.

If Sony keeps at the current cadence, or gets more aggressive with those ports, they'll see an equivalent (but not outright same) type of decline. Their brand being more popular gives them a better-padded floor compared to Xbox. But, we'd still see the decline over a period of time, it wouldn't happen overnight.

Why would I have to look at Xbox to see the impact PC ports would have on a PLAYSTATION? 2 Different brands altogether, with vastly different reputation and appeal.

Xbox dropped the ball on the late 360 era and only now are trying to recover. At best they can have a decent wrap up of this generation to build goodwill for the next.

I find it hilarious that people are using the PS5 not being ahead of PS2 as some kind of knock on the PS5.

It’s as if a massive success coming after an astronomical success that was unprecedented in every way is somehow abject failure.

It's hard to honestly believe that it's not great selling better that ps4 while being unavailable for half the time, with a price point of 500 that even increased over time. They are making unprecedent sales considering the history of the industry.

Absolutely. To hold the momentum they did through the shortages is just staggering and shows the power of the brand.

Very convenient excuse.

Xbox started to drop the ball late 360 era but the XBO actually did pretty decently at the start with sales, and arguably had a stronger exclusive lineup than PS4 for the first year or so.

Also you're blatantly wrong about them "trying" to recover only now. Microsoft have been trying, and mostly floundering, to recover since the DRM disaster in mid 2013. The 'Day 1 PC', BC, Game Pass...they were all part of their attempts at recovery. Too bad for them the first one has eroded at the appeal of their own console over the years as evident with Xbox Series sales globally. They've stopped with the 2nd, and the last? Well if it were going better they'd start sharing sub numbers and maybe even revenue for it but they refuse to.

That says a lot right there.

They’ve been fighting uphill ever since Adam Orth said the quiet parts out loud on Twitter and caused a massive shitstorm that helped give birth to the rallying cry of the Xbabies “SONY TOO!!!”

Holy shit, my guy. Get the PC pacifier out of your mouth and be objective for once.

-It does. Look at Xbox. He's got cancer because he smoked too much.
-Why would I look at Xbox when PlayStation is a completely different person! Xbox was fat. Totally different situation. PlayStation is immune to cancer.

Prove me wrong then. When is the time when we will see this famous PC port canibalization effect kick in then? It's been more than 3 years since HZD PC port was announced.
This year was pretty dry in terms of exclusives for the PS5 and it just keeps selling. Picture next year when more console exclusive games will release.

The truth is that this massive migration of tens of millions of playstation gamers to PC gaming will never happen. It's just an excuse you guys make to have more ammo for the list wars. The core PS customer mainly buys multiplats and chooses console gaming for convenience, price, friends in the ecosystem and ease of use. It's not there counting exclusives and won't build a gaming PC just because a PC port of spiderman 2 may release in 2025 at full price.

PC ports only butthurt warriors and a few enthusiast gamers that have gaming PCs and buy consoles for exclusives. Since this makes their consoles useless for the most part. Sony's executives have ran the numbers already.

You have to look at it from both sides....it's a domino effect..... You say Xbox's decline has nothing to do with their pc focus, then what is it? That their games aren't as good or they don't release as many? That's true but why is that the case? BECAUSE of PC. A focus on 1 platform was the reason why the 360 had so many 1st and 3rd party games, and why the XB1 launch lineup for the first 2 years was better than PlayStations. Then Phil came along and mandated day and date PC releases and then the games started to slow down A LOT....not only were there less games, the few games they got were just worse games because of the PC distraction. PC devalued the console, led to more complicated development cycles, and resulted in lower quality games. These problems became further exacerbated by GamePass and now the Series S.

Look at Nintendo now, they purely focus on 1 platform and they have by far the highest 1st and 3rd party games output, PlayStation is a distant 2nd because they've become distracted by PC, and Xbox is dead last.

Acting like theres no correlation is disingenuous. Your hate for fanboys is blinding you from being objective.

There have been papers written about it, but if something has appeal because of an exclusive experience, removing the exclusivity of that experience directly impacts (negatively) on that appeal. To deny that is to be dense. You can argue the extent of the loss of appeal, maaaaybe, but you can't argue that PC ports cause cancer.
