According to a new earnings call released this week, Unity CEO Matt Bromberg states that the upcoming Unity 6 game engine upgrade is expected to release in Fall 2024.
Bromberg says that Unity 6 is “on track for release this fall,” and adds that Unity believes “it will be the most stable, best-performing version we’ve ever delivered.”
Additionally, Bromberg reinforces that “Unity 6 is going to be the bedrock of our offering for years to come.”
One analyst specifically asked about Unity’s upcoming runtime fees, the Pro transition, and any potential tier pricing changes.
Regarding price increases, Bromberg said that “we don’t expect to see them right away, but we do see them coming in over time.”
The divisive Runtime Fees apply to games created with or upgraded to Unity 6. The thresholds also include $1 million USD revenue trailing 12 months, and 1 million initial engagements.
In a separate shareholder letter today, Unity also reported that “second quarter results exceeded guidance for both revenue and Adjusted EBITDA.”
However, the letter also mentions that revenue from Unity’s strategic portfolio was “down 6% year-over-year.”
Unity recently faced fan backlash, and in May 2024, reports surfaced that new Unity CEO Matthew Bromberg netted millions to sign on for the role via base salary and a bonus. The previous CEO stepped down in October 2023.
