Fresh off a successful debut at The Game Awards, The Finals is experiencing an impressive surge in popularity, boasting a staggering 195,955 concurrent players as of this writing. Launched just yesterday, December 7, 2023, the first-person shooter from Embark Studios seems poised for a dominant run in the gaming scene.

There is something to be said about the value Steam Stats and charts have for the Steam platform as a free and gratuitous article/discussion/marketing generation machine keeping Steam associated with games and in mindshare despite not necessarily been the most popular platform nor most active platform for the game in question or games in general - as opposed to say PlayStation or Nintendo. Every time you get some headline or article like this, to the uninitiated the impression is that Steam is the "it" for judging popularity (and thus the platform to be in - the choice to make) when it's not, with less than half of the revenue of PlayStation on software distribution alone.

Again, here is a perfect example of console platform holders lagging behind. An initiative like this boils down to a few allocated dollars and a small dedicated team to work across departments in the creation of free tools in a website (metrics, player reviews etc) for the public and PlayStation users. That is, to deepen the ecosystem with the little details - and I can bet you Sony internally has these tools, just probably not as consumer friendly. But the fossils at SIE, specially in Marketing who should be the ones pushing for an initiative like this (the Eric Lempels of this world) in their high perches can't see any of it - and if they can see it and decide not to do anything about it - grossly incompetent. Either way just brain dead idiocy and indicative of the generational leadership divide. Jim and the others can't leave soon enough - that is not to say it's guaranteed their replacements will be better, but there is at least a > 0% chance.

Been hopelessly addicted to this game. I am VERY picky on multiplayer games, but I must admit they struck some serious gold with this one.

Patch Notes 1.3.0

The first patch of Season 1 is chock-full of quality-of-life improvements and general fixes. The one everyone here is most happy about: the doors in Vegas won’t open in the wrong direction anymore — That was so annoying!

Here are the highlights we think you will all care about the most:

  • You can now see your actual position in the leaderboards once you have played a ranked match.
  • Changed requirements for unranked tournaments from 12 to 6 matches
  • The Recent tab in the social screen is now working
  • Fixed some crash instances
  • Animation improvements to movement feel to get closer to the OB experience
  • Fixed a bug where some doors in Vegas would open in the wrong direction
  • Hold interactions that are started while moving will no longer be interrupted prematurely
  • OCE/SA Server Regions are selectable on all platforms

GAME UPDATES

Release Patch Notes 1.4.1

We’re back!
Today we have a small patch that addresses community feedback on aim assist, fair play, and bug fixes. These changes are the result of an in-depth review of how aim assist works — something we’ve only been able to validate with a player base as large as ours (thanks so much for playing our game, yolks!).
We have another bigger update in the works for next week, with a major security fix and some new exciting content, so stay tuned for that!

Aim Assistance
  • Zoom Snapping Angular Velocity now has a max cap, preventing unintended rapid 90-degree turns.
  • Camera Magnetism will be reduced to 35% from 50%, making player aim less sticky and lowering controller accuracy.
  • Zoom Snapping Time will be reduced to 0.25s from 0.3s.
  • Zoom Snapping will be removed from the SR-84 Sniper Rifle, Revolver, LH1, and all Shotguns, as it buffs them more
    than other weapons.
  • Aim assist will ignore invisible players, fixing a bug with the existing system.
  • Clients running key re-mapping programs on PC will not have access to aim assist.
