No meta reviews from outlets but I'll add real reviews from gamers on youtube and else where.

Compared to Pavlov, this game wasn't super great, but if you just look at the game by itself, it's still good - I played a match a day after launch and found that it was still fun, it was just different. I don't mind the button reloading mechanic (it actually made gameplay flow better in my opinion), and the eye tracking was decent. I never played Firewall: Zero Hour, so I'm sure that it was better, but overall Ultra was still an enjoyable experience. My only real complaint was that the movement was just ever so slightly janky, but it wasn't game breaking.

this is so sad, i was so hyped for this game. the game looks great and the gameplay is awesome. but once you need to aim and fire the game just falls about . they put ADS in the game so you have to click a trigger to pull the gun up and look down the sights like some flat game. you would think this is not a problem just dont use that . but the issue is if you don't click that button they make the gun spray bullets everywhere. so every person whos played any vr shooter is thrown off and cant figure out why they suck at the game. so if you want to be competitive you have to use it. that's the biggest issue with the game. second biggest issue is the 4v4 mode. you have to wait for a match for few minutes. ok not a big deal. but once your in a game its best out of 3 rounds. so you could loose both rounds and be back in the lobby in less then 5 minutes. thats just insane. if your lucky you will go to round 3 and maybe play for 8 minutes. so you wait for 5-10 minutes for a game then play for 5-10. it should be first to like 5 wins or even seven like breach vr

Unfortunately the game is “meh”. Lacks a lot of realism. You can’t reload your gun manually, you just click X. You can’t throw a grenade, you just press and hold a button and then let go. You can’t customise your aim point to make the experience better. The eye tracking is mediocre at best. I just find it hard to believe that we are in 2023 on a very powerful machine and we are still having to press and hold a button for 3 seconds on a VR controller to pick things up. It should be quicker and more realistic. Wish I could get a refund unfortunately!

u/jounk704 avatar I can say now after one hour, it's an extremely polished and complete game. The graphics are extremely good. Object based physics are really good, such as explosions, particles, dust etc. The lighting and shadow effects are top notch, best i have seen in a VR mp shooter. Audio design/ SoundFX is extremely good.
The gunplay feels really good but unfortunately it's no Virtual Stock like in Pavlov so the handling of the weapons can feel a bit wonky unless you have a physical gun stock.
The gameplay is great but this game might not be for everyone. If you like more fast paced run and gun type of shooters with respawn you might not enjoy this game. This game is a tactical shooter and is designed to be slow paced and tactical so you have the time to communicate with your squad.
All in all, im extremely happy about this game and i highly recommended it to most people. It's the closest you will get to a triple A VR shooter

What I've seen mostly based off few public reviews from regular ppl and reddit posts is that it is around a 75/100 type of game and the goto shooter is still Pavlov on PSVR2. Not bad but I'm kind of disappointed but hey thts life.

I don't know : most of this disappointed reviews seems to lament the absence of mechanics that the developers had assured were in the game as option...the reviewer don't seems to have spent that much time with the game so I wonder if these opinions are really rappresentative of the real state of the game or if the problem is just a counterintuitive interface that doesn't really show you how to customize your experience

May or may not be but I'm life my opinions on games have resonated more with the common ppl than most of these so called professional sites.

Searching for firewall ultra on YouTube I’m seeing mostly negativity. Expected as much but was hoping for it to no be the case.

This is a big deal as far as I’m concerned. It was a flagship shooter on vr1, a lot was resting on the shoulders of this game to do it again for vr2. Instead they just ported the original with all the limitations and shoehorned in some of the vr2 tech in ways that often doesn’t even make sense - like a checklist exercise.

In a nutshell it’s a game for lovers of the 1st one that simply want to continue with that on their new hat, but nothing more. Sad they ignored all feedback and cheaped out - it’s Rush of Blood all over again.

Angry.

Off topic : Instead I opted for Red Matter 2. I’m literally blown away at the gfx, it’s so sharp and smooth it’s on another level - really shows of the capabilities of the hardware when the software is done right.

Tested no man’s sky update - night and day from prior version, sharp, clear. Playing this in vr now is the optimal experience for it no doubt about it.

Which one is it? I thought you were enjoying it. Is it good or not or it's good but not playable most of the time?
Its good when it works. Is shit when you have to wait match making mess up. The level system is fucked. But moment to moment gameplay is awesome

There doesn't appear to be any reviews yet on Metacritic... did nobody review this game?

Oh well, feels like VR2 is a bust right now
This is pretty much what I was saying since the beginning, because it really didn't appear to me like Sony had their entire heart in on this.. and it makes sense when none of the other platforms are messing with it.

If Nintendo would do a real VR system (LOL Labo) then that would be something that could potentially catch on... but it's very obvious Sony would rather put their big guns behind projects which are guaranteed to make them serious bank. Getting "VR modes" in games is not what people truly wanted... they wanted purpose built-from-the-ground-up games that take advantage of the unique features.

I'm sure whatever Team Asobo is cooking up will be brilliant on PSVR2.. but you need a steady stream of those high quality releases to build an install base, and Sony just hasn't shown that it's THAT interested to make that happen.

I hope team asobi’s next game won’t die on PSVR2 at this point
Yea. They really should be working on a full sized epic PS5 Astro-bot game. Push the Dualsense features hard as well as do nifty game design shit with the SSD quick loading.
