Leave it to Phil Spencer to underestimate the competition. The document becomes even funnier when you look at what he's replying to. Here's a small excerpt as to how far off the mark they were:

Yea but it just happened Sony products sold 3-4 times better and we will copy their features.

Vertical only looks with a stand, USB-C port on the front, haptic feedback and gyro.

This like Apple v Samsung again. Apple makes iPhone, Samsung makes fun of it then copy the exact same shit again.

nah Jimbo is at least making good business moves, even if i don't like them as a gamer. Phil isn't even doing that.
Like the times he jacked the price of PS Plus, or raise price of PS5(I knowed, exchange rate inflation compared to US Dollars), or PC Ports.

If you're Satya and you're still listening to this clown you're engaging in gross incompetence. I say that in a vacuum obviously, there may be an internal industry analysis with regards to the Windows ecosystem that I'm not privy to that require the presence in the console market to fend off long term substitution and erosion of the productivity software for game development. A way of ensuring it stays that way (monopoly status), so goes the thinking, is having a foot in the consumer market as well - no better monitoring place for threats, trends and upstarts, as well as a place from which to influence market direction. Consoles being a branching threat. Still doesn't excuse keeping the man around, even if your bet for giving "stability" a chance failed.

Btw, I think Sony's CEO is also giving way too much leash to Jimbo, not reviewing the impacts of the changes in policy direction under Jimbo's term. There are flaws and contradictions in the vision, approach, tactics, strategy of current PS which imo require attention, even course correction.

What this excerpt shows is that in conglomerates, CEO ignorance of the intricacies of the market of a subsidiary, and the incentive structure that make a product's appeal work is found aplenty. A CEO can only make so much of the inner workings a subsidiary looking at numbers and graphs or going by the interpretations of what's happening that is provided by those under him (who have an incentive to smooth corners - the Phil and Jimbo's of the world). This is obviously the result of being inundated with the day to day managerial aspects of your job, on top of sifting through the overall numbers of the company as a whole. Delegation of duty and responsibilities to folk like Phil or Jim carry a tremendous degree of trust by the CEO, which is not always rewarded, at least not optimally. Clear cut case here.

Anyone that knows the industry understands that shipping a console with 0 big hitter exclusives on launch, or close enough is begging for a beating mind-share wise at the outset of a gen and that it carries over if left unchecked. Spinning it by: "we will sell out anyway" is not an honest judgement of the market perception effect of the failure to have a well-oiled content pipeline with quality exclusive software. How Philly boy, coming off a horrible 7 years, pounded by the content question couldn't see that, or chose to pretend it wasn't there in a pep talk booster to his superior show dishonesty, or ignorance, neither suitable for the job. What software clown? Halo Infinite? :poop: All eggs in one basket = also incompetence.
