My consoles of choice were...

I don't know I was just a big Sega/Sonic head and every Christmas I'd ask for the newest Sega console tht would be coming out. Even though I was young I felt like their hardware was always pushing the medium forward and I really enjoyed them.

Turbografx 16:

Another console tht I loved and had great Affinity towards. I felt like it was top notch and they had Japanese versions of games like Castlevania X that other systems didn't.

Sony Consoles:

After my Sega/Turbo days it was all Sony...

From hardware, to classics, to innovations and exclusives like Uncharted 2 I just felt/feel they really try to innovate and push different things forward. From PSVR, to new controllers, dual analog, PS3 being blue ray and having tons of features felt premium.

Side note I've always played Nintendo consoles and thought SNES was the best Ninyebdo system ever but I never really asked for them for Holidays. I was happy in my own gaming space.

Wuth thst said why do you game on the systems you do and/or prefer them?

This is the first beast I remember from my childhood:

My neighbor had one and we played A LOT, I remember spending the whole afternoon playing Mortal Kombat 3 and other fighting games like Dragon Ball Z or Yu Yu hakusho:

I remember my best friend having a Playstation 1, and playing games like Crash Team Racing, Vigilante 8, Football games, etc:

For years I only had a pc but then it came the day... THAT day: my birthday. The day I was so happy when I opened my gift that I jumped to hug my father. This was behind the gift wrap:

I can't tell how happy I was. That console gave me some of the best years of my already happy childhood. I was the only one among my friends to have one. I can't even count the amount of tournaments that we played on my bedroom:

But mostly I was a PC gamer for like 25 years. But last year I ended up on this forum filled with Sony warriors talking about how great the Playstation 5 was, I looked back at my childhood and remembered how happy I was playing on consoles and decided to give PS5 a chance. It was my first console after skipping like 3 generations... best decision ever. I rediscovered my love for gaming. After buying hundreds of games on Steam that I never touched I'm back on track and enjoying this hobby a fucking ton again and trying things I missed like Witcher 3 or Ghost of Tsushima... when Jin Sakai unsheathed his sword and I felt the blade run through my hands with the dualsense I knew I was back in.

I had your first two, the master system with Alex kid and Wonderboy.

The Megadrive had Strider and Mortal Kombat 2 double dragon, the system was so incredible

My friend had a neo geo, that thing was also amazing but he used to own a shop and had it set up for the arcade if i recall correctly,

I have never heard of the Turbo one, saying that i was in Africa and we did not have a lot of access to this stuff back then.

Damn Strider was sublime back then and I grew up on Wonder Boy! Love it.

PlayStation consoles were just the best consoles in pretty much every gen they participated including the portables one (with the expectation of that PS Portal abomination).

Nintendo consoles were pretty good up until the Wii, I really disliked it. Their portables had been pretty bad for a long time until the Switch, they just happened to be the default portable and had a lot of support.

My favorite Sega console is probably the Dreamcast but it clearly didn't work out for them.

I had a SEGA MegaDrive/CD/32X Tower until like 1999. I kept waiting for SEGA to sort their stuff - Saturn not having early/european proper entries for forgotten MD series I liked, such as Sonic, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Streets Of Rage. But it never seemed to happen. And then the sequels of Saturn-gen new games like Resident Evil got moved exclusively to PS. So in late 1999 I got a PS1 instead. Into PS2 as next main machine, but when I started working I did go around and get the DC/GC/XB probably summer 2002/2003 (when did those GC RE games come out? I bought the GC with RE0/Remake/2/3).

I think there's a relative through-line between Streets Of Rage/Mortal Kombat into the WWE 2K series, starting back on PS1 with WWF SD! Or Resident Evil's slow decay and rebuild from tank controls/camera into TPS OTS Action RE, outwards into the likes of modern co-op/online TPS games like TLOU Factions or The Division (Division gameplay wise honestly feels to me like RE Racoon City with the RE liscense stripped away).

Brief detour to 360 early next gen, cause PS3 was just too expensive, and UK version got gimped software only BC. Never did get a BC PS3, got a Slim later-on around Batman AA's release for those Joker levels. PS3 gen pulled things back, like OG PS+ Monthly Games were good enough to make sub worth it on their own.

Got a XBSX after Jim Ryan's comments made me skeptical of their direction. But MS did precious little outside of better backwards compatability service. Sold that machine to my mate.

Stayed on PS for the most part. Although I would totally buy a ''stranded'' SEGA machine just for their IP/BC catalouge, if they sorta went the Nintendo way.
