Xbox Reddit mods are closing Xbox Series X and Xbox One subreddits

The news is not going down well on r/XboxSeriesX. Many members would prefer the mods handover the keys to the subreddit and wave goodbye.

We'd first like to extend a very sincere thank you to each of you who visit and participate with us. Today we are announcing some important changes to the overall structure of these communities. [...] we've heard time and again about frustrations with how the Xbox communities on Reddit are structured. Via mod mail, comment, and even from Xbox team members directly.

• r/XboxOne will be sunset and archived.
• r/XboxSeriesX will be sunset and archived.
• r/Xbox will serve as the new central hub for these communities and userbases.

Xbox subs are heavily fronted by official Xbox Ambassadors who have low tolerance for any kind of dissent — even among their own.

They often work with Microsoft on important announcements and events. No doubt these changes are being pushed through at the recommendation of Microsoft, to prepare for what comes next.

Xbox mods permabanned over 400 members during one 3-month period when Microsoft was attempting to acquire Activision. Even long-time Xbox fans who repeatedly expressed a dim view of the acquisition were cast out.

Seems like it's coordinated by MS to get rid of the association of Xbox with their flopped hardware.

My bet is that their spin going forward is that Xbox is a gaming ecosystem that encompasses Cloud/PC/PlayStation/Nintendo/portable PCs/console-like PCs/GaaS/Mobile.

It shows how important galvanizing the Xbox community is to Microsoft, that they are marshalling the troops at this level.

Imagine if Apple was exposed to be influencing the Apple subreddit. It would be a social media scandal. For Microsoft, it's a normal day.

I know very few people that have an Xbox console (like 3 people over the years), all of them lost interest in gaming and their console have been collecting dust for many years. People that I know that own a PS5 or PS4 all play games even if it's just Fifa/CoD.

I don't think I ever heard the Series X name mentioned outside of the internet, not even on a TV add.

Reddit as a whole is a terrible website, the downbote system itself encourages hive minds and you also have power tripping mods who control hundreds of subreddits. That entire site needs to be nuked.

Wont do shit about trolls. Takes them forever to action posts that break rules and will even leave posts that clearly break rules just because they feel like it.
