This may seem particularly egregious if you’ve been enjoying Apex on the Deck, as the game has enjoyed surprisingly excellent support from Respawn on the handheld until now. It’s even made its way onto Destructoid’s list of top free games to play on the Deck, and even had a ‘Verified’ badge on its store page.

Not only will steamdeck and Linux players lose access, this also means that the steamdeck version 'Verified' will be losed. (As it will no longer be playable).

And what is the reason for it not working?
There are several tools to cheat on Linux.
So they killed the support.

In our efforts to combat cheating in Apex, we've identified Linux OS as being a path for a variety of impactful exploits and cheats. As a result, we've decided to block Linux OS access to the game. While this will impact a small number of Apex players, we believe the decision will meaningfully reduce instances of cheating in our game.

Linux is used by default on the Steam Deck. There is currently no reliable way for us to differentiate a legitimate Steam Deck from a malicious cheat claiming to be a Steam Deck (via Linux).

IMO they know the numbers of Linux users (that include Steam Deck users) playing the game is very small so they decided it was better to just lose these players than invest money and fix the exploits in Linux.

When I say better I mean cheapest.

At first i thought it was pretty lazy and backwards thinking. But then I thought about it and asked, "People are still playing Apex?" It's past the point they are invested in doing any actual work in all likelihood. It's still really cheap and anti-consumer/fan though.

Sad news for people who preferred to play this game on Steamdeck. In an ideal world, it would be nice if there were anti-cheat systems in place which could allow Linux OS machines to play this game without jeapordizing the experience of others.

All the same, their reasoning seems sound at this time.

It still peaks at 150k or so CCU on Steam alone.

I think the issue here is that all these games doesn’t have Linux version… they are just windows games translated/emulated on Linux and these cheat control done on windows won’t work on Linux.

Steam OS gives the impression Valve is supporting the game industry on Linux but in fact they are helping game developers to never proper support Linux.

Any chance to developers even try to make tools or support their games on Linux was gone after Steam OS launched.

Valve doesn’t care at all because they only aim was to avoid to pay a license for Windows in their product.

Yeah no PS first party game should be compatible w Valve own console Steamdeck. Considering the success of the portal PS6 is likely a hybrid handheld like Switch folding mobile & the traditional box console like Nintendo did would be the smarter move. Less focus on power & more focus on fun games which has always & will always be the reason these console sell 100+ million
