I think MS will announce every game releasing on PS5 through a leak.

IMO it only becomes significant if the games are Day 1. Something tells me another reason we're "only" seeing these four games for now is because they're the ones Sony and Nintendo are okay with having who is still technically a direct competitor, bring games to their platform and use money gained from those sales to continue competing against them.

None of these four games are "major" releases in terms of their B2P sales revenue or brand power, nor are they strongly associated with Xbox brand-wise the way things like Halo and Gears are. Additionally, for games like Grounded and Sea of Thieves, while the latter does have a pretty nicely sized audience, it's a GaaS, and Sony & Nintendo will get cuts from the MTX add-on sales on their platform. And IP-wise, it's not the type of game where even if it does well, it effectively "advertises" the Xbox console brand to PlayStation & Nintendo primary/exclusive gamers to try luring them over to Xbox.

I mean, the games will entice some to take a look at Xbox and see the stuff that's console-exclusive there. But they won't have the effect something like say Halo Infinite or Starfield would in that case, to the benefit of Sony & Nintendo, and derision of Microsoft. So there's a delicate balance for Sony & Nintendo in what MS games come to their platforms, and that also works in the flipside for what Sony & Nintendo games come to Xbox. Yeah Phil likes yapping about Sony & Nintendo 1P coming to Xbox but they also know the reality that if any of their big games did come to the system, they'd act as big advertisement of non-Xbox console platforms and likely lure over more Xbox gamers to those platforms, potentially at the risk of dropping Xbox. This is especially a risk if it were a big Sony game.

That's why the only Sony games that are on Xbox are MLB The Show and Destiny 2; they aren't tied to the PlayStation brand identity the way GOW, Spiderman, TLOU etc. are and in the case of Destiny that is largely seen as a platform-agnostic IP plus it's GaaS, so MS are getting cuts of any MTX sales on their platform. They also lucked out getting MLB in Game Pass so inadvertently they've been able to lessen some of the tighter brand association of that IP with PlayStation in doing so (most people would ot stop to think that a game from a competing platform holder could be a Day 1 release in Game Pass, so they'd assume it's a 3P game instead).

If MS are really going multiplatform/multi-console, it'll be in six phases. Currently we're in Phase 1: late ports of old smaller/loosely-branded (to Xbox) games. Phase 2 would be Day 1 PS/Nintendo releases of games like HiFi Rush and Pentiment. Phase 3 would be late ports of old medium-sized games and/or games with a somewhat stronger identity tied to Xbox, like MCC or Gears Tactics. Phase 4 would be Day 1 releases of those game types. Phase 5 would be late ports of the big tentpole games like Starfield, Indiana Jones, and TES VI. Phase 6, the final phase, would be Day 1 PS/Nintendo releases of those tentpole titles.

Think of it less like a linear sequence and more like one where more of the Phases are happening simultaneously. But the one to look out for is Phase 6; if/when the strategy for multi-console reaches Phase 6, that's it. That's the point where Microsoft are effectively no longer competing as a console platform holder, and are 100% multiplat 3P. How long would that take? Well, it took ~ 4 years from starting their first PC port of an XBO title, to doing Day 1 on PC for all their games, and then they expanded that to Steam in 2020. So about 4-5 years I'd say? Well this time, if it's a similar path they're taking but for consoles, it would be half as long. Meaning if that's the direction they're going, they'll be at Phase 6 by the end of 2026.

Nah, I'll wait for it to be on PS+ and then probably give it a shot for free.
I got Gamepass for $1 a month until May, I won't ever buy it for PS5 but if people with a similar taste to me started recommending it here I might try it.
