God of War Ragnarok is 40 Hours in Length - Insider Gaming

god-of-war-ragnarok.jpg

God of War Ragnarok's completion will be around 40 hours, sources claim. Around 4.5 hours will be of cinematics.

God of War Ragnarok is around 40 hours in length, Insider Gaming has learned. It’s understood that the entire experience is around 40 hours, with 20 hours needed to complete the game’s main story. Sources have said that around 3 and a half hours of the 20 hours played will be cinematic scenes, with the remaining 16 and a half hours for gameplay. The other 20 hours of game time is to complete all of the additional side quests, with around 19 hours dedicated to gameplay and an additional 1 hour of cinematics.

Of course, these numbers are just estimates and will vary wildly depending on your playstyle.

This would mean that God of War Ranarok’s length would be around the same length as God of War (2018) with its main story, but around 8-9 hours longer with its side quests. According to How Long To Beat, which tracks how long it takes people to complete games, the average completion time of God of War 2018’s main story and side questions is around 32 hours. It was revealed 2 weeks ago that the file size for God of War Ragnarok is around 90.6GB on the PlayStation 4, which will be double the size of the 2018 game if true.

God of War Ragnarok’s length was previously mentioned to be 40 hours last year by David Jaffe on his YouTube channel.

“I’m hearing from people in the know that that game is 40 hours. They’re aiming for 40 hours of gameplay. I don’t know if that’s a 100% Platinum Trophy completion or if that’s average playtime. Is it guaranteed? No. Things get cut, things get added. But what I can tell you right now – 40 hours of gameplay is what they’re shooting for the new God of War“, it was said.

Hmmm very disappointing to hear.
I was hoping the Sequel would have a longer story than GOW 2018. Shame because Cory mentioned it might be bigger and longer than the 1st game.
20 hours in a must play day 1 game, is like a 2-4 day adventure for me, so quite disappointing for me. I was hoping to sink my teeth into it for longer

But if it was any longer Im sure reviewers were gonna shit all over the game saying its too long… them shills have to make there excuses for their review scores

They said with side content (which could be very good) its around 40, thats fine…?

Not everyone wants to play a 40 hour mostly linear action game, thats longer than ghost of tsushima and both horizon games. TLOU part 2 had numerous complaints about the length and pacing. I can’t imagine wanting a game so much longer than that

Perfect length for me, because with my playstyle I'll probably take 80 hours 😂with half of that spent just either dicking around or thinking about certain strategies. Although this isn't a SRPG, so I'm probably exaggerating a tad.

Plus I'll likely only have maybe 4-5 hours every few days to actually play it, so that's 40 hours over the course of a few weeks (potentially longer, since I'm playing other games simultaneously).

Sounds perfect to me. Around 15-20 hours of main story including cinematics plus the aprox. same amount for secondary and extra stuff is the length I want for AAA games.

I don't want them to artificially grow it with repetitive tasks way beyond that.

Same here, games often take me twice (or almost) the time listed in howlongtobeat.

I think that in addition to TLOU2, GoT, Uncharted 4, HZD (I still have to complete HFW) or Days Gone would have been benefited of removing from them almost a third of repetitive stuff in the game and to move it to a DLC (or the DLC they already have).

Whenever I see people say how long the campaign is, it's always based on the default difficulty setting and other settings being on. Playing on hard and turning off some HUD settings which will make the game harder will definitely increase the play time. I'm expecting more like 60 or so hours total. Either way, im day one baby!!! Whooo!!!

it is quite shit actually.
they combined 2 games into one, so i expected at least 30h story, now we are getting 20h minus 3,5h cinematics.
i would add, that mostly those 20h given is not by gamers, so in reality, game is even shorter.
that is highly disappointing.

I was actually expecting 40 hours for the campaign alone.

After playing Elden Ring for 80 or so hours, 20 to 40 doesn't really seem all that daunting. I kinda want games that really engross me for almost 100 hours.

A 40 hour game to most folks that got a life (not saying you) are gonna take 60-100 to plat. So 40 hours is good. Most people i would figure play games slower than play testers video games.

I want games that don’t have a lot of padding and reusage of enemies either. If they give me 40 hours of game that offers unique and optional boss fights, big set pieces, a fulfilling conclusion, and tighter gameplay i will be very happy.

The main game would absolutely drag if it were as long as sonys open world games like horizon, tsushima, days gone, which average like 30-35 hours

Sure, it would need to be more like Elden Ring style and even then there was a good bit of re-usage of enemies in that.
