Microsoft says 10 years is ‘sufficient for Sony to develop Call of Duty alternatives’

How many tried and failed miserably? No one does it anymore exactly because of that, no point in spending money to create a "COD Killer" when the average Cawadudy player just want to play that thing, the closest we got was Battlefield till the idiots at DICE burned the franchise to the ground 2 consecutive times in a row 🤬

MS knows their type of gamers are people who love shooting things or love to play online, Xbox been marketed for decades. “Best controller for FPS, best payed online multiplayer etc…

Even EA who was super friendly with Xbox all of the sudden got silent. People love to argue that Sony is burning bridges with activision, well MS did worse with EA.

Most of us are just too happy with uninspired yearly releases of decade old IPs. It’s sad.
Sony isn't burning any bridges with Activision. The current management will leave once deal fails. Activision - Sony relationship will go fine.

Also, does this means everyone else that signed the deal needs to start working on developing their own CoD competitor?
It actually means CoD is a Trojan Horse and everyone signing the deal will have to pay high fees to keep CoD on their platforms and PS included, if the revenue stream is too high to pass.

There are too many likely scenarios tbh.

Honestly no one tried really hard. Every military fps tries to add some gimmick and they fail. Medalnof honor, bf.... They still dont understand why cod players re there. Mostly small maps, twich shooter, instant spawns, 60 fps. There s reason why counter s still popular. Start from there and build over years, modes, seasons. I hope devotion games re working on it. U cant build it imediately but it can be done in some way and over years. Also sony needs to pump bags of money in ip. From 1000 devs to huge marketing. I think Factions can be big if they make it great.

And idiots at dice re for another topic. How can some1 mismanage ip that bad should be studied in schools. Tried ps plus version other day. Everything s so slow from menu to gameplay. Still need 5 second to respawn etc.

Sony can make their own Elder Scrolls, Doom, COD, MMOs, WRPGs and next they can make their own GTA, Fortnite, Fifa, Nhl, Madden and everything else so it's fine if they let MS have it.

Let us compete!

They defo should make their own WRPG’s, JRPG’s, 1st person shooters and MMO’s. They use to apart from WRPG’s.
With the way their studios and production value has improved, they would be great.

Time for Ultima online to come back lol.

Bring back Resistance, Killzone , Deviation games and Firewalk’s 1st person Shooter. Bungie’s next Shooter plus Destiny 3. Sign Battlefield as 3rd party Exclusive.
The next Bioshock etc.

Make Horizon a full WRPG ( It has better combat than most WRPG’s )
Make 2 more Traditional WRPG’s. Top downish, and 1st person.

Buy Fromsoft, Level 5 and Square. - JRPG’s sorted.

They have the resources and talent. Time to make them

I guess they added gimmicks so they could get away without getting dragged for copy/pasting COD, when it got so big, everything was compared to it so they probably wanted to avoid the "saints row effect" as in avoid to live for eternity in the shadows of a bigger and better game 😛

Also, problem with trends is time, so I can see why they didn't try the hardest, because imagine pumping millions and then BAM!, another genre gets popular and destroys your ambitions so you only get a chance to rule whatever is left from a now less relevant genre

I think it started with BF1, sure it was good, but it was trying so hard to set themselves apart from COD, they drank their own koolaid and began this path of self destruction trying to show "maturity" and "real concerns", for "modern audiences" while also trying to sell skins and mtx :ROFLMAO:

They already are developing at least couple Bungie new IPs, plus the ones from Firewalk, Deviation and TLOU Online. Considering that each CoD should sell around 10-15M copies on PS yes, Sony won't need to wait 10 years to have their own CoD level shooters.

Also,. the next Arrowhead, supposedly Helldivers 2, willl be a AAA game. Unlike the other ones I don't see this one with a potential of selling that, but could outsell the next Gears game easily.

I think Sony will start the next generation having their own Halo selling better than Halo, their own Gears selling better than Gears and their own CoD selling better than CoD.

Microsoft has said it believes 10 years is long enough for Sony to develop rival offerings to the Call of Duty franchise.

Regulators including the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) have expressed concerns that Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard could significantly reduce PlayStation’s ability to compete given that it would see Microsoft gain ownership of the Call of Duty series, which Sony has called “irreplaceable”.

In a bid to gain approval for the deal, Microsoft has told regulators it’s willing to make each new Call of Duty game available on PlayStation the same day it comes to Xbox for a 10-year period, with full content and feature parity.
That stupid sentence may cause some regulator kill the acquisition (or to divest CoD and forbid them to buy it) because proves MS wants to make it exclusive and the 10 years deals are only a stunt to get the acquisition approved.

They stopped playing the 'good guy' role too early.

Talk about a big ass gaffe.

What an idiot.

All the regulators faithful better pray to god (for the sake of their own mental health on their carefully fragile worldview) that this deal doesn't pass with all of the shit that's straight up in their face. The arguments are exhausted, the evidence is as clear as day, in words and in deeds. Why the fuck are they even talking, considering, going through the motions of accepting "behavioral remedies"? Faith is a helluva drug. I guess everyone chooses to live their own "truth"

What a clown show. Only MS can provide this level of entertainment and commit self-own goals repeatedly. :ROFLMAO:

I just skimmed through MS' horseshit responses in that document. They not only point blank claim the 10 years are generous enough and they shouldn't be required to extend them further, but they also claim they shouldn't have to offer them to anyone else, such as new entrants into the console market. So if one of their big tech competitors decide to get into gaming, they're going to withhold COD and ABK from them, which in a free market where ABK remains third party, would never have happened. Sounds pretty anti competitive to me.

Oh yeah, and they have the audacity to claim they'll have no incentive to pull CoD after 10 years, but insist that the CMA shouldn't force them to extend the remedy period. Where have we heard no incentive before...Zenimax maybe? The arrogance...

Hope it goes through so we can move on to something else. I watch so many grown men argue with each other over this acquisition, it's exhausting. But hey, who am I kidding, the war will continue.

I find it amusing that MS feels they can tell anybody, much less Sony, about what they can develop and in what time frame. MS' overall track record doesn't paint a picture of competency when it comes to game development, after all. As well, this should finally put to rest the naive idea that MS doesn't want to take games away from PS - without regulator push back, it would have been three years and knowing how MS operates - the reality would have been even less than that.
