There are different possible reasons:
- May want to avoid celebrations just after having fired people and shut down a studio
- May be waiting to achieve certain round number, as could be 10M units sold
- May want to share it a little later, with the fiscal year report, where they could also update their performance on PC/outside-PS revenue or GaaS
- May have it scheduled for some random future day as a filler in their PR/CM roadmap of social media posts for when they don't have anything else to say
- May have their PR/marketing/comms/CM team busy with something else and don't care about it

Based on an analyst's estimate, quoted in Bloomberg. It's entirely possible, and probable, actually.

It's just an estimation from an analyst but yes, they must be over 8M. Pretty likely over 10M too, but I assume that analyst wanted to be conservative.

He won't be off by 8 million. 1 or 2 million off at worst case which means the game sold at least 6 million copies.
It just shows when you do your own game with passion, it pays.

Yeah they didn't just make this game thru breathed it and brought it to life. I agree 100% with you, it was passion, their "love letter".
