Toxicity in gaming and does it change depending on the game's ppl play.

I've experienced toxicity twice in like 180 hours of helldivers 2, once was launch week when some indian sounding dude was cussing out the team over the mike since we were on an automaton mission that turned rough, told him to chill out and he stopped talking on the mic lol. The other time some dude was spamming the reinforce button for 30s but the guy near his body didn't do anything so I called him in like 150m away and he tked me lol. I feel like this toxicity is mainly in pvp playerbases like cod fortnite and league

I feel like those shouting loudest about toxicity aren’t too sociable to begin with. And gamers that don’t particurlary enjoy online multiplayer either. But we have tools to deal with that. You can block. I often just mute. You can report when necessary (I only report cheaters since people do stupid shit when their emotions run amok).

People can be real pieces of trash to each other. That’s life so I don’t really encourage blocking it out or going scorched earth on users for language either (ongoing harassment is serious business of course). That’s not an accurate portrayal of humanity and avoiding it won’t do you any favors when you eventually do come at odds with someone in the real world and not thru shitposting.

But I think there’s been changes back towards the middle. More games are doing chat on by default. And that built-in mic with the dual sense is a legit casual game changer and my favorite controller innovation of the gen.

i also understand just wanting to enjoy casual gameplay without sweats going bananas but you also gotta accept what you’re getting yourself into with online games and especially competitive ones. The competitive nature alone should indicate aggression as part of the experience and to expect it.

The only toxicity that is needed to be dealt with is hacking and cheating. Everything else is people bitching, you are not a 100$ bill not everyone will like you. I find the people who say they want to play casual then go play in the ranked matchmaking the most insufferable. Like bitch you can go play the unranked games but they turn up in ranked games and ruin it for the ones trying to improve their ranks

It definitely depends on the game. Metal Gear Online 2, my favorite MP game ever, was home to some of the most idiotic, obnoxious, vitriolic and shitty people you could ever meet in an online game. The servers closed in 2012 and to this day I still haven't found a shittier community.

I just don't care about nasty messages you get online. I laugh it off. More than once, I responded asking what the problem was, only to find out the person had a bad day and apologizes.

Doesn't happen these days as I have my messaging set to friends only.

As far as in-game stuff goes. Not much you can do about it. Some games offer you a way to vote kick players. Others force you to leave the game. I never really play online unless I have people to play with. That way any sort of grifters get a good taste of their own stuff.
