1060 3GB was decent at the time even with that limited VRAM. 3050 is a weak card but low profile and very power efficient. AMD released absolute trash cards. Underpowered, inefficient, worse upscalling solution. More VRAM is their saving grace in some cases.

And those IGPUs all tech youtubers were raving about, they are 75 USD too expensive for what they offer.
let's ignore the fact that the 3050 6gb doesn't have enough pci lanes so it performs much worse than a regular 3050
also amd released amazing budget cards, the 6600xt and 6700xt were best in class for price/perf, 6800 non xt also extremely energy efficient and price efficient. upscaling at 1080p means even DLSS looks like trash, so no win for nvidia there and 3060/3070s were basically +$100 for same or weaker performance. Even if AMD put out trash cards no one paid attention to them, but they also put out decent cards, whereas nvidia has been gouging for ever. Even the 3080 10gb which was an amazing card at MSRP was basically never in stock at that price and they barely made any founder's editions

the only way PS5 can surpass the PS4 is if they have a 299 console in the market, with an exclusive-less box that costs 449/499 it's gonna be impossible, and i don't have high hopes for price drops this year, PS5 Pro will probably cost 599, Sony can't afford to take losses on hardware, their profits are already thin.

Sony has been trying everything to sabotage the PS5

with live service games i get it, but singleplayer games are system seller games, Spiderman sells consoles, God Of War sells consoles, The Last Of Us sells consoles, these games should be PERMAMENTLY exclusive to the console, they can be avaliable on other devices through cloud for example (PS Plus Premium subscription required to play) but if you want the native experience you need to buy a PlayStation, that would be the perfect strategy, people know if they wait they'll have it on PC and free cause Sony doesn't even add Denuvo and people pirate singleplayer 'one and done' games without thinking twice on PC...

that's why i think they won't surpass it, for PS5 to surpass PS4 Sony needs to sell 62M more PS5s, even with GTA 6 i still think it's not enough

You're also ignoring the decline of Xbox as a part of this.

GTA6 will definitely put it over the top, but you're not entirely wrong that price is going to play a large part in this.

The exclusive argument that you are harping on is a non-factor.

We'll see where Sony prices the PS5 Pro and the PS5 Standard and Digital accordingly this fall.

The PS5 has yet to have a price cut, in fact it has increased in price. The PS4 dropped to 299.99 3 years after launch AND the PS4 Pro launched 3 years later too.

The PS5 Pro won't release until a full 4 years in the cycle.

If you're going to compare launch aligned it's pretty key to keep things in mind.

IF the PS5 Pro launches this fall for 500 dollars and the base model PS5 drops to 400 dollars and the digital drops to 350, I would expect it to have an extremely healthy holiday season compared to the PS4 in its 4th year.

Those are very big ifs, and they still need new 1P exclusives to help with that type of push as well.

Them, or the entire market that's not Nintendo or Valve for that matter (console & PC gaming-wise) depending on GTA6 to pick up the slack is both very irresponsible and extremely dangerous a precedent to set for long-term industry health. Games like GTA6 are once in a decade, maybe even once every 15 years.

And, it all also assumes GTA6 will have the same impact as GTA5. Frankly, we don't know for absolute certainty yet if it will.

Yeah; SIE aren't doing themselves any favors in terms of optics and priorities that put their console at the forefront. Going forward, how many timed exclusives like Rebirth do they realistically expect to land? It feels like the window on that type of stuff is closing, so where is the content differentiation going to come from?

No; I think the exclusives argument is very paramount. Personally, I have not said that is the only thing which matters. But it's very important and a key part of determining how well a platform does, just like how exclusive content helps determine how streaming services or movie distributors end up performing in the market. Exclusives matter.

Pricing-wise I think anything between $499 - $599 for the Pro is reasonable; it's a console aimed at enthusiasts after all. But the PS5 itself needs a cost-reduced option. Maybe they do a Digital Edition with a smaller capacity storage (128 GB - 256 GB) and maybe some non-essential ports removed for $349 regular, $299 holiday promo and for when GTA6 launches.

Dunno, but it's SIE's thing to resolve.

  • Sony being resistant to price cuts doesn't mean there won't be one at all
    • I totally expect the PS5 will drop in price in the face of the PS5 Pro
    • It will probably drop in price again with the PS6
    • The PS5 will be widely available at the end of its cycle and into the PS6 product life cycle unlike the PS4 that couldn't be supported because of supply chain priorities
  • There hasn't been an aggressive push to devalue their platform, that is fanboy talk
  • 2025 is going to be an absolute killer year as we know GTA6 is coming out, the PS4 never had a new GTA game, let alone essentially an exclusive one
  • Jim Ryan never estimated 107, you're misquoting him
    • He said he was confident it could sell AT LEAST 108 million units, the key word there being at least
  • The PS5 is going to have a longer product life cycle than the PS4 as mentioned above

Your analysis discounts the PS5 Pro, price cuts later in the product life cycle, an extended product life cycle, and what will almost certainly be the biggest game of the generation that will probably sell 80 percent or more on PS5... GTA5 sold 32.5 million units in its first year. If GTA6 launches with an online component, everyone is going to buy a PS5 to upgrade to play it. Over 140 million copies of GTA5 sold...

Your analysis is really poor here and it'll be fun to hear your excuses when the PS5 sells well over 100 million unlike the less that you suggested.
Even if the PS5 gets a price cut when the PRO drops the hardware will still be too expensive lmao. I'm actually amazed how much pricing has been bungled this generation considering they were bragging how the system was built to be price scallabe from the start.

The PRO will sell no more than 10 million that's me being optimistic as there's still no need for one and the price will not be cheap so it will even alienate anyone who isn't in the hardcore 10%

I'm not misquoting him, that is an estimate that's what he expects the system to sell and this was said when he was bragging about the PS5 was gonna surpass the PS4 launch aligned before 2023 ends and how they were confident 25 million was achievable.. everything came crashing down after April 2023.

PS5 will never touch the PS4 sales, the system fell behind the PS4 by millions last year due to slow sales. They are experiencing a concerning 50% year on year drop in the Asian market, they are struggling across Europe, they have lost their strong hold on the Spain market, had slower than expected sales in France last year too. They are trying to spur sales across Europe but no one is buying it in mass now unless it gets a temporary price cut.

How do you lose your European Blue wall? Give me a break. They are almost 4+ million behind PS4 STILL launch aligned in Eurpe and that number will increase this year.

If you think they aren't devaluing their platform then you are living in denial.

GTA VI will move hardware BUT it ain't gonna move an astronomical amount of consoles for months on end lol. GTA V has already been selling consoles all generation. that was the whole intent of the partnership to migrate over the base since GTA VI was so far off.

You keep reiterating my analysis is wrong when I never presented MY OPINION as an analysis but as MY OPINION... Just as you are presenting your flawed opinion.

you really think exclusives are not important? 💀 you really believe PS4 would've sold 118M consoles without its exclusive games you couldn't play nowhere else?

i blame Sony themselfs for porting their system seller exclusive games to PC and making their hardware useless, that's why they've been missing sales targets
You blame :Sony that continue selling a lot of PS5 (buying AMD APUs) but not Microsoft that basically killed Xbox?

For AMD Sony is the player keeping with the demand.

i blame both but i'm a PlayStation player, and the targets being missed by Sony are totally related to them wanting to expand beyond the console, singleplayer games should remain exclusive, they don't even make enough money on PC to justify these ports, live services day and date is the way to go

Sony missed a record breaking target with record breaking numbers 🤷‍♂️

I have no ideia where you guys get that Sony FY23 are bad lol It probably still fucking over 21 million.

It is more than FY22 so that mean AMD sold more to Sony in FY23 than FY22… so Sony contributed to more sales not less.

AMD revenue drops is unrelated to Sony that brought more chips from AMD in FY23 than FY22.

For these that maybe can’t understand… AMD revenue from Sony INCREASED!

the topic is about hardware, and they missed targets for PS5 🤷‍♂️
lol

AMD revenue from Sony increased…
AMD sold more chips to Sony in FY23 than FY22.

Do you understand how your take was wrong?

It doesn’t matter if they missed target because they still sold way more hardware than previous year.

For reference…

FY22: 19.1m
FY23: 21m (the missed target was 25m)

Continue blaming Sony that was the AMD consumer helping them to not have even worst drop in gaming revenue.

of course it sold more in FY23, they had to deal with shortages in FY22, that’s why they were expecting to sell 25M in FY23, due to avaliability, holiday 2023 was the first of PS5 without any shortages

Yet another straw man... No one said it's all up to GTA6.

There are going to be plenty of games this generation that perform well and they simply don't need to be exclusive in order for that to happen, but some of them will.

Wolverine for example is probably going to perform really well and maybe Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater will too. One of those is exclusive and the other is not.

You've all convinced yourselves that people buy systems for exclusives, the reality is that they buy them for games.

Someone doesn't generally ask themselves should I buy this on PC or console. They'll buy it for whatever they want to buy it for. You've convinced yourselves that there is this huge migration to PC gaming simply because games are there, but it isn't true. We haven't seen this uptick in console style games sales on PC.

So many of you need to get over this narrative because it's going to blow up in your faces, but most of you will say, it's too soon to tell.. and you'll be saying this all the way through the PS6 era.

So AMD revenue drop was not Sony fault lol
Sony demand increased.

They reached AMD and said… we want to buy more chip from you… so AMD made more money from Sony.

Can you understand?

And it is unrelated to your own comment lol

Because you blamed Sony for something that they are unrelated.

But the hate lol Sony too lol

In fact Sony did it part… they brought more from AMD 🤷‍♂️

you can’t have a strong platform without strong exclusive content, they’ll learn it the hard way, Xbox dying in front of their eyes and Nintendo about to surpass the PS2 wasn’t enough to show them that they need exclusives to be strong in the long term future, when you have your own games running better on another platform, that’s how you know you failed with your own product 🤷‍♂️
