Phil Spencer is the reason why xbox it's failing, Microsoft made a big mistake to put Phil as a CEO at Xbox. He has to go.

I wonder what a post-Xbox fully third party gaming world looks like.

- PlayStation profits sour to new heights
- All* third-party AAA games purchasable on one platform (sometimes on Nintendo as well)
- One less platform for indies and AAA to have to develop and market for
- Less second party deals for indies and AAA studios
- PlayStation looking at PC either more of a competitor or a legacy + service platform
- PC handhelds growing
- High-end PC component prices continue to rise
- New PlayStation consoles are either more expensive or less high-end out of the gate

Going to be an interesting next few years.

If Phil leaves and someone like Shawn Layden comes to Xbox, maybe this time they can release a good game. But repairing what Phil has done will take a lot.
This whole gen is a wash for xbox and then first 3-4 years of the next gen are fucked too, and if even CoD somehow tanks in the next 5 years it will be a pure clown show. Hardware division is done for

Sony would be stupid to continue with PS5/PC "exclusives" when PS5/PC are the only platforms powerful enough to run them. But Sony leadership is stupid, so that's exactly what I expect.

I love how the plan to outspend Sony out of the console business backfire so poetically, not a single thing worked out in their favor:
- They became too big and too unprofitable to justify all those studios.
- Xbox is now selling considerably less than even the Xbox One.
- Gamepass can't grow outside of Xbox and PC players are no interested in subscription.
- Gamepass makes so little money that putting games like CoD on it day one would be a huge money sink.
- The best solution they've found to see some of the money back was to put their games on Steam/PlayStation/Nintendo and give them a 30% cut.
- Spent money to get marketing rights from Sony of games that have no audience on Xbox.
- The Series S made it so that they can't release a pro version of their consoles this gen.
- None of the studios they have bought since 2018 have had any success under them.
- All the good will people had towards Phil Spencer because of his lies will now be turned against their brand.

By PS5/PC exclusives, do you mean PlayStation's day and date releases of live service games?

If so, I think it's a smart move. If PC gaming continues to get more expensive (it will) more people will just move towards consoles for high-end gaming. High-end PC gaming is already a niche.

anything and everything, 1st p, 2nd p, 3rd p and gaas. Everything should be exclusive, even if gaas results in much less sales, thats better than boosting your only competitor. PC gaming is only niche for AAA single player games and sports games. You don't need high end PC to play pc, most pc gamers have a 3060/4060 and play at 1080p, it can run most things fine

Look at the sales data for modern Call of Duty, Madden, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed and other super mainstream games. Sony/PlayStation doesn't have to worry about PC. PC is all about multiplayer shooter games and random indie darlings. I can't even think of a time where racers blew up in Steam charts (I'm very ignorant on racing games on PC, sales wise), meanwhile Gran Turismo is reaching another level of success.

Sony/PlayStation putting legacy titles and their multiplayer games on PC helps PlayStation more than hurts PlayStation.

Horizon FW, rift apart, and returnal are legacy titles?!? wtf are you on about? And the more Xbox dies, the more the casual player base of PC grows. The more pc handhelds that come out, the more PC grows. 5 years ago, the market for sports game on Steam was completely non existent, and now there's a small community, that pattern will continue. Forza Horizon series, iRacing, asseto corsa, all do decent on PC.

It's like you and Sony's beancounters can only think 2 weeks in advance. Keep seeing Steam as if they're nothing and see how well that ends for PS 🤷‍♂️ PC doesn't even contribute 1% to Sony's bottom line but creates endless controversy, but thats "helping it" ???

Multiple years old games = legacy games. I'm using the term "legacy" as a shortened version of games that are probably well passed their ability to entice someone to buy a PlayStation 5 (one of the reasons for exclusives).

Neither one of us know how truly impactful Sony's PC ports are for those studios, neither of us have successfully ran a billion dollar gaming division, neither of us have to worry about teams of people and their financial security. Those are way more important than list wars fuel. The leaders at PlayStation aren't infallible, but they have been very successful. US arm chair executives think we know more than we do. I guarantee to you that, what we think we know about PlayStation's finances and future isn't reality. Again, what's more important is the PlayStation division's financial success and their individual team's success. Fuck the platform vs platform shit. If you wanna buy Helldivers 2 on PC and that's where Sony puts it, so be it.

Yeah, hes been too long, invested a lot of money and had mixed results. There's no way around it. Xbox at one point was critiziced for having Halo/Forza and Gears but under Spencer:

Halo infinite was underwhelming.
Gears 4 and 5 were decent games, amazing from a technical standpoint but not as memorable as the original trilogy.
Forza horizon is at its best but Forza 8 I have heard it's pretty bad. When it should have been better than GT7, specially considering it wasnt a cross gen game.

So now, Xbox is weak even on their tent pole franchises without having created new ones to replace them.

Im going to be honest here and i know ill catch flak for it but you all know its true:

This isnt Phil spencers fault. This is gamers fault, this is your fault. Gamers failed Phil and his long term vision. These layoffs are because sony hogs marketshare and doesnt let xbox compete. Its sony fauly MS isnt more popular and that gamepass hasnt taken off.
Phil is a visionary. He wanted to transform the game industry to make it better and more accessible to Gamers all over the world. Buying publishers was necessary because sony always cheats him. Laying people off is also necessary to keep budgets in line. All of us gamers should be ashamed of ourselves.

Xbox fan base is the biggest issue.

They like more about talk strike points than actual actions.
Always eating the forever promising, never delivering strategy.
