I understand that but it would be weird to have it at "more than 87.4 million" and it actually was in the 88 millions instead. Why include the .4?

Also the system says last PS3 produced but from what I remember but the PS3 didn't end production until October of 2016 in North America and in mid 2017 in Japan:

However maybe what Sony meant by ending productions was storing PS3's in warehouses? I don't know, There is no region that ended production in June of 2016 so I just find it weird.
The chart doesn't say total , it says.
At date sold at least y.

Getting accurate sale globally is difficult.

Its not weird.

What is weird is that Sony announced the PS3 ended production in North America in October of 2016 and in Japan in May of 2017 but the last console was produced in June of 2016? That is what I am trying to figure out. Maybe it some weird thing where they are still producing parts for consoles after June of 2016 for repairs but usually Sony announces that separately like with the PS2 ending production in 2013 but ending repairs in 2018:

edit - like I said in a previous post, it could be something about how PS3 clusters were made specifically for PS Now.

That confirms it beat Xbox 360, where lifetime sales estimates range from 84-85.7m.
Even with the figure of 87.4 million, we knew that the PS3 finished ahead of the 360.

In the middle of october 2013, The 360 sales had reached 80 million (worldwide).

The PS3 reached 80 million too (worldwide) 3 weeks later.

If we look closer, the PS3 has outsold the 360 (worldwide) every year since 2007/08 (except for 2008/09):

Code:
+---------+------------+------------+
| FY | PS3 | 360 |
+---------+------------+------------+

| 2006/07 | 3.6 | 6.6 |

| 2011/12 | 13.9 | 13.0 |
| 2012/13 | 11.6 | 9.9 |
| 2013/14 | 7.1 | 5.9 |
+---------+------------+------------+
| Total | 82.7 | 84.1 |
+---------+------------+------------+
| 2014/15 | 3.1 | ? |
| 2015/16 | ? | ? |

+---------+------------+------------+
| LTD | 87.4 | ? |
+---------+------------+------------+

We know sales of the 360 dropped sharply worldwide in the last 2 years (~1.5m at best) just before the end of production.

There's no way the 360 have finished ahead of the PS3.
