Realistically Microsoft could’ve waited a few more years for Activision to implode further.

I sorta expect this downward trend for them to continue until the deal is final and MS guts them to pieces (I find this necessary btw)

Hindsight is 20/20.

The stock price was on it's way back up after multiple scandal news hit which is likely why Bobby Kotick didn't want to sell... but nobody expected gaming to sort of tank so much this spring (US-centric, suck it!).

As brother @ethomaz said those scandals and their stock price taking a hit are the only reason the board (minus Kotick) were willing to sell in the first place.

Call of Duty franchise loses over 50 million players in a year

Call of Duty has had record player count losses, losing over 50 million since last year. The Activision Blizzard franchise is set to pause development on a 2023 CoD after the release of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.

Call of duty is such a big machine that they can lose that many players and still be highly profitable but its a very fickle one that requires a lot of resources to keep running. Anyone that thinks microsoft is gonna swoop in and drastically change shit up are fooling themselves.

I honestly feel with the talent sony currently has at their disposal (deviation, Firewalk, Guerrilla, Bungie) combined with playstation marketing, they could easily feel the void leftover.

MW2 will be big sales but then they are taking all over 2024 off. I expect in that time that both EA and Sony will drop big multiplayer games.

MW2 will be big sales but then they are taking all over 2024 off. I expect in that time that both EA and Sony will drop big multiplayer games.

They can fill the void game quality wise.

Filling the COD brand name void will be more difficult and take longer.

Personally I believe Bungie could do it the quickest. They have a huge following.

Brand name though not impossible will take years to replicate. Games like PUBG, Apex Legends and Fortnite are already huge in their own right.

Game quality won’t be an issue. Bungie could easily make an FPS as good as COD.

People forget that sony also helped build them to this level also. Sony marketed the shit out of Call of Duty during one of its best runs in the business. What happens when sony puts their full weight behind another shooter when they have top tier talent?

People are taking sonys comments from that regulation interview too literally. They aren’t 100% sincere just like Microsoft wasn’t. They are trying to overstate the dominance CoD has. Thats why the 3rd party publishers weren’t saying similar cause they know its bullshit.

This isn’t the ps3 days where they were shooting in the dark, playstation studios are an entirely different beast today.
