AMD Releases FSR 2.2 plugin for Unreal Engine

AMD FSR 2.2 plugin now available for Unreal Engine

As promised, AMD has now released the newest FSR library as a plugin for Unreal Engine powered games.

Around two weeks ago, AMD released a source code for its FSR 2.2 upscaling technology. The latest version has been available for at least two months now with games such as Forza Horizon 5, but AMD needed more time to prepare the documentation and test the plugins for broader use. With the just released Unreal Engine FSR 2.2 plugin, more game developers will be able to add the latest version of FSR with a few clicks.

The FSR 2.2 improves handling of the ghosting, especially on fast-moving objects. According to AMD, the 2.2 also has improvements to reduce fizzing artefacts during disoclusions (it is where a previously occluded object becomes visible). Overall, the 2.2 is an important upgrade and milestone for before the company shifts its focus to FSR 3 later this year.

AMD announced that over 250 games are now confirmed to feature either FSR 1 or FSR 2. This number includes existing and upcoming games. From this number 110 titles are to support FSR 2. The Unreal Engine plugin will of course speed-up the adoption process, but this is primarily targeted at indie game developers without direct support from AMD.

This is really good news for both console owners and gamers at large as FSR 2.2 has in large part caught up to DLSS 2, at least at 4k output settings, and having an Unreal Engine plugin will make it a lot easier for devs to implement so you'll see it in more games. Most of the time FSR will look comparable to DLSS, and in order to notice a difference you'd have to break out the 400% zoom. DLSS is still much better at lower resolutions and quality settings, but this ensures that consoles should be able to provide smooth 60fps experiences well into the generation.

It's a lot more noticeable in motion.. but yes, this is a great update.

Yeah you can still tell there's a bit of ghosting but 2.2 has cut down on it so it's no longer a big distraction.
