Well I do think Sony faces an uphill battle selling 25 million PS5, they'll need a miracle to happen at this stage. It's just so weird they set such high targets for themselves while offering nothing outside of Forespoken, Spiderman and FF 16.?? Their worst first party year since 2014.

Sales have slow since April... wish them well but, this guy isn't lying

sony said they will do everything in their power to reach those 25M.

the most aggressive thing that they can do is cut prices. Hype (showcase...there is still hope 😂🤣) will have a small increase in consoles sales as well. another strategy are bundles and special editions.

what is intriguing is their silence and somewhat arrogant posture in messaging or the lack thereof.

But one thing is for certain....you dont have a 2 years absence of big presentations just because

a) sony is having internal issues (first/second party)

b). it's a strategic decision to save the ammo to counterattack MS's acquisitions.

I honestly think it's because Jim is a scumsucking corpo suit who is so tightfisted with money that he's cutting any expenses he can including marketing budget. So he's not asking the studios to create vertical slices for a showcase because that would cost $. It's not because of 4d chess or internal trouble. It's just because Jim Ryan fucking sucks at PR.

Where it’s at.
I just love seeing the idiotic “prediction” that Sony will somehow miss targets in a year where they are posting insane numbers.

Get a clue, doomsayers. The estimate was presented in a shareholder call. That means they are actually LOWER than what Sony forecasts, as you always lowball estimates to investors so your results come in better than predicted.

Also, the Golden Quarter hasn’t hit yet. You know, the time of year that almost 60% of sales are made.

The armchair analysts really come off like they wear a hockey helmet wherever they go, and NOT because they’re big hockey fans.

Yeah yeah we get it, Sony can do no wrong, even when they're complacent af. Tell me something genius, if they were doing so great at creating demand why did they have to do a $100 price drop?

PR has been bad. but that is one thing. Spider-man had a vertical slice.

Yeah cuz the game is about to come out. I'm talking about marketing 2+ years in advance of release, which so far we've only seen with a tiny CGI trailer of wolverine and nothing else.

still takes money and time to make it.

but that is what i am saying. sony clearly markets it's games with trailers and gameplay. You can see that in previous showcases and dedicated state of plays. so, the fact that they didn't had a showcase in 2022 and the last one was so bad. makes you wonder what is going on?

I don't think ryan is tightfisted with money. he has shown a willingness to spend money to make money. (Hogwarts legacy marketing deal, third-party money hats, Price cuts, day one games on the service (Kena, Sea of Stars, the fornite car combat) and all the new studio acquisitions.

Games like stellar ass (that was supposed to release this year) as well as helldivers and FFVIIR2 (with a release window between 2023-2024) ...SH2 remake (which thanks to rumours and speculations was expected this year) ...and some insiders saying that sony didn't show some things.

Furthermore, we know that sony delayed some games internally (probably Factions one of them) and we aslo know that they aim to release like 2 first party games a year or something like that.

This paints a situation (pretty bad situation if true) in which sony is either having issues internally first/second party (thus deciding not to have a showcase in 2022 and being forced to have a showcase with a bunch of CGI trailers in 2023).

Or because PS5 keeps selling like hotcakes. they had forgotten, The wizard game (that performed like a first party for them) , FF16 and Probably the biggest game  of the last 10 years  in Spider-Men 2. Plus, this year has been insane for gaming already and the bullshit around ABK's acquisition could give sony some pause in its marketing approach (keep their cards close to their chest). giving more time to its devs to gain like 6 months of development (thanks to not allocate budget time to create a vertical slice for a showcase). So, they sacrificed PR/Marketing momentum just to have the warheads ready to be deployed when the shit hits the fan

Well, it's a lie that they aren't offering nothing outside Forspoken, Spider-Man and FF16. This year PS has a gazillion great games, some 1st party and some 3rd party. Some multi and some exclusive. And remember, most sales are from 3rd party games, specially multiplatform big seller games.

It's also a lie that sales have been slow since April, we saw many reports from many different countries around the world of big YoY increases.

As always, the holidays Q3 will have a huge portion of the sales, as always happened, every year with every console. The $100 discount and the September+Q3 releases will also help. They will have great sales this fiscal year, way more than in the previous one, but it's true that the 25M estimate maybe was a bit too ambitious.

They may reduce it a bit, specially if they had some hugesellers (doesn't matter if 3rd or 1st, multi or exclusive) originally planned for Q3 and Q4 that have been delayed outiside the FY.

Q3 is the Fall 23'.

Expect a 349/299 USD pricetag on new model since that is the only ways possible to get 25M.

I expect that the new model will have the same prices than the current ($100 discounted) SKUs.

With the components pricing raises and also the high inflation and shipment raises in recent months/years I think they won't have margin to discount the price even more, they already must be selling it at a loss.

So I think they'll keep the same price and still selling it at a small loss, smaller loss than it was before with the current SKU.

Of course, they wear it because it looks cool, right?

Yes, he closed all studios to save money 🤑.
