With the release of Season 6, many presses and new players praise Battlefield 2042 as a great Battlefield now, a weapon to surpass insert FPS. So I booted on my old copy that has been stranded on the PC to test to see if anything has improved at all. The results are
So many things I want to complain but let's talk about the few positive things first.
First positive point, there is actually "class" now. At least you can't less be confused I guess? They lump 3 operators, specialists, whatever I call these. More on these later.
Second, some map are actually playable on conquest now. Kailedoscope, Breakaway, Orbital is now playable, there is now a dozen of map to choose in BF2042. A dozen...
Third, you can manage for squads now. You can kick the cunt who blow up your tank because you got there first.
Alright, that is merely the positive points that they change, now on to the negative.
The classes system change doesn't address one thing, everyone and their mother can use every weapons in the game in any "specialists" with no tradebacks
This mean that medic could be annoying overpowered with LMGs and SRs when they can infinitely heal. Recons can be offensive with overpowered scan ability and basically break the dynamics. Where are the drawbacks.
The whole damn system is broken when every classes get to choose their main weapons, no balanced whatsoever. There is a reason why in BF1 and BF5 you don't give Scouts absurdly offensive weapons
That works in BF4 for some weapons type because Recons does not have broken scan ability and Support can't infinitely heal... Again you ruined it Dice.
Maps
After Season 6, there are 12 maps in the games. 12... BF5 post launch support are garbage and even then we got 19... BF1/BF4 have 30+. Again GaaS has regressed multiplayer games so god damn much
Some of these maps work great in Breakthough with the exception of Hourglass, Manifest and Stranded.
They are either annoying maps that has no ways to flank or too opened meaning there are no ways to actually push. For the most part maps work great on Breakthrough since it is much easier to balance.
In Conquest however. There some turd maps that sticked out like a sore thumb.
Hourglass still a piece of sh** after the rework. The only objective that worth seeing some fighting is the stadium. Otherwise you will get steamrolled by tanks.
Discaded... should have been stranded. What has changed in this map compared to launch? Open field recons..., oh wait, snipers and vehicles heaven. And the ships are not even fun to fight in because there is only one ways to go on to higher grounds that has already been camped
Exposure... This map underground part are the only fun you will ever get. Once you go to other flags, you will get camped by vehicles uphill.
Renewal... Imagine this, let's give one team an invicible open field cap-flag that cannot be contested whatsoever. And put the main infatry point of interset in other team cap-flag. Brilliant idea Dice...
Other maps just average in their regards... except for Spearhead which is a good vehicles-infantry map and Zavod... I mean Reclaimed which is the direct copy of Zavod 311 so I can't see where they go wrong with it.
The launch maps after the reworks are either just playable, not great or still turd. But it is okay, we can just skip the maps if you, oh wait...
QOLs.
You can't switch team. No auto-balance. It is annoying to have one-sided matches but we have been in a regressiom path since BF5 so nothing to surprises there.
But the one cardinal sin that Dice make is the exclusion of a server browser in this god forsaken game. You can't make this shit up.
BF2042 gonna be the fastest BF game to die post support because you can fill up a server because their matchmaking is so garbage that a lot of time they match you in a server with 200ms ping.
With a server browser you could pick where to play, what to play but since this is modern farm, I guess you don't have a choice either.
Not to mention the server are not even presistent, because of course.
The funny thing is that there is a server browser in Portal but nobody played that crap since Dice doesn't even add new AOW maps into it.
Vehicles
The vehicles in this games lacks depth, and even as shallowed it still it is horribly balanced.
Repairs are ways to overpowered... You can take some damaged. The damage model in this game are so inconsistent. Why can't I guranteed destroying tracks if I shoot at the right place. So most of the time the cunt retreated and come back up full health later on. BF5 got complained for relying on health station. BF3-BF4 got complained because you have. So, this time they decide to use BF1 system except they are much more overpowered so there is no consequences for taking hit.
MAV, light armored are fast, deal a lot of damaged but they are immuned to ammunitations, unless you using AMRs. Anybody with a IQ more than 100s can dominated the field. Did I mention repairs are broken.
Tanks in this game have projectiles that have so much velocity that equipping turned it. And also you can regenerate ammos infinitely like BF1/BF4/BF3, faster as well. Progression wise, it has absurdly good loadout without tradebacks so I can see why everyone camping for a tanks in the spawn screen. You need no skill to use these things.
Little birds and stealth chopperstakes 2 MANPADs shot to took down, on top of having fast repairs and really strong 25mm guns
Also don't bother with jets. Their weapons sucks, their fly model are broken and there are like 3 upgrades.
So overall infantrys are chicken in a farm for ground vehicles and helis. Funny because in older games, ground vehicles require more skill while air vehicles are more annoying with deal with.
Movement, Gunplay system
The movement in this game is stupidly janky. Sometimes you will stuck in a corner, a hillside, it is basically BF1 craters but worse. They didn't bother to bring back BF5 smooth movements system but whatever, technology are complicated and not there yet. The most stupid addition is the
The gunplay is just meh, the netcode is mildly better than BF4 launch, meaning you probably has a 5% of your shot not registered, and 20% of trading your shot.
Portal is abandoned since launch, so is there is nothing to talk about here.
Visuals and Details
The games looks worse than BF1 and BF5, the only improvement are polygon. Less destructions, like fine details. Artstyle looks generic.
VERDICT:
Before launch: 2/10
After launch: 5/10
Playable, could be fun, but not worth your times. Just play BF1 or BF5 instead on those community/rented servers that are cheaters free. Ignore DICE servers like plague.
