Ben Kuchera: If you ever questioned a Polygon review score, you were right.

That explains their really inflated Xbox scores for Xbox games.

I also remember Polygon getting money from MS early last gen, it was really weird going to a website like that to see so many MS sponsorships. Not to mention the founders ties to MS.

Yes. They even gave TLoU a 7.5, one year later they gave MCC a 9.5 score while minimizing the issues (that 343i spent years trying to fix).

It was like this when I did games media over a decade ago.

Basically you have to promise a certain review percentile to some pr companies to continue receiving support in the form of swag, invites and free reviewable products.

In my experience both EA and Nintendo (thru their pr company) did this. Basically they asked me to promise to give a 80% review of the that feudal Japan pinball game Nintendo made that used a microphone, Odama. I said fuck that… quit doing that stuff after indefinitely thereafter. Forums are more honest despite there firefight of words.

It’s all rigged garbage. Entertainment critics are a fucking joke. Disney and Microsoft own everything. It’s rigged

Yea sure I opened my mouth. Don’t give a shit. It’s a cesspool industry. It’s trash

When I click the image to see it bigger it gives me a error:

“You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.”

The URL it tries to open:

It should open in full screen the image.
That probably happens because it a image hosted by icon-era via attachments that is a feature not available to all.
If you host the image in a external place it works fine.

Looks like several pro MS channels were bought out. We know Digital Foundry was bribed before by MS (a known member on GAF provided proof and even mods validated it) and now Polygon was cheating too. A lot of Sony games got low scores on Polygon (like the infamous 7.5 to TLoU) so they were definitely suspicious.

I'm not surprised - MS has tons of money after all and they were caught in the past astroturfing for Internet Explorer - but let's remember all those bribes and cheats next time a MS exclusive gets stellar marks and reviews, like Halo Infinite did recently (despite dying relatively fast and being considered as lackluster by most people).

I wonder if Sony does the same, never heard of similar bribes, so if they do, I doubt it's on the same scale. To be fair, they have a lot less money.

Most bigger companies most likely do it.

It takes a lot of built up goodwill for a publication to even get the support of major companies like the big 3.

Third parties had pr companies that were a bit more generous sotospeak. Most likely to easily get shills on board.

I don’t believe either.

Polygon us know to increase Xbox scores and decrease PlayStation ones.

Ben Kuchera is a pro Xbox too… he trying to say the Xbox One backslash doesn’t matter and wrote a piece that is even today remembered by the “fart in the wind” lol

Probably Polygon and Kuchera were fighting who can game more PlayStation scores and increase Xbox scores.

You guys act surprised when stuff like Dragon Age Inquisition wins Goty across numerous publications or when a complete fart in the wind like Deathloop gets universal praise.

Appreciate the honesty, bro.

Whole process sounds pretty scummy, and I think we see how that plays into stuff like the MetaCritic aggregates, too.

But it's not so easy to just say "trust the gamers!", either, because some definitely have their own agendas when talking about certain games. Shows the fragility of game reviews I guess.

activists masquerading as videogame journalists because they didn't have the intelligence or educational background to get into politics. all of these sites are full of hack writers. look at Kotaku, lol.

I mean we've all seen the manufactured hype cycle. look at Cyberpunk. What a sham that entire thing was.

This should surprise no one lol and if it does you have to be naive. Microsoft is well known for their cheap tactics at trying to get the upper hand. Polygon has been in the cross hairs of gamers for their gross, blatant favoritism when reviewing certain exclusives on certain systems.
