Xbox starts releasing exclusive games on PlayStation.
People buy PlayStation instead. They can now play Xbox and Sony exclusives on one platform.
Multiplatform publishers drop support for Xbox.
Xbox sales fall even further.
Repeat.

Then the Microsoft team heard that the CMA had rejected the deal. In its explanation, the agency wrote that it was worried the company would leverage Activision assets such as Call of Duty to dominate the nascent cloud gaming market. The writing has been on the wall for Phil Spencer for sometime and I doubt he even wants to stay at this point with the direction they're going in.

This article is seemingly put out there to bolster support for her when Spencer leaves and she replaces him.

It'll be interesting how quickly we see that happen and we'll know even more how much these "journalists" are in the bag for Microsoft.

Context here being Microsoft was getting their shit kicked in and the idea was that buying ABK at the time could have staved off strategic changes. The delay of the FTC and CMA combined with the need to sign off on CoD being multiplatform for 10 years actually accelerated those strategic changes even further...

Only a small sliver on the internet and casual gamers who don't follow the industry thinks that Xbox is still a primary competitor in the market.

• Not only are their games headed to PS5, they're announcing them before they even release; see Indy
• They've essentially pulled out of regional markets
• They've already discussed future hardware having other storefronts

There are going to be some seismic things that happen that make it clear that Xbox is a 3rd party publisher, so seismic in nature that even casuals won't be able to ignore it

• Microsoft will publish games on PS5 that play better on PS5 Pro than they do on XSX
• Microsoft will publish a Halo game on PS5 and there is no spinning this. Xbox IS Halo.

Once they rip that last bandaid off, it's an absolute wrap for Xbox.

The latest we get a PS5 Pro enhanced Xbox title is Indy but we'll probably get something before that potentially with Minecraft. So we're talking about that happening within the next 6 months.

Halo will hit PS5 within the next 2 years.
