Bungie just concluded the long-running saga of the light and darkness in Destiny 2: The Final Shape earlier this month, and now the Halo and Destiny developer is teasing what’s next. In a “journey ahead” stream today, Bungie disclosed the first details on its plans for the rest of the year ahead with Destiny 2 and even teased a 2025 release for new content that’s codenamed “Frontiers.”

Until Frontiers arrives next year, Destiny 2 will continue with new episodes of story content that explore what’s happened after the conclusion of The Final Shape. Destiny 2 players have just battled The Witness in the latest expansion, the main antagonist of Destiny’s light and darkness saga, which has created what Bungie is calling echoes throughout the universe.

Didnt they say the Final shape is the last expansion ?
Last expansion for light vs dark saga.
Bungie made the Forever game, they would be fucking stupid to drop it now. No better time to leave than now, we got a good ending and it would be a good time for dudes that been playing since alpha/beta to say goodbye

Yes, the codename Frontiers refers to the episodes that will continue the story in the next years and now will be their focus, instead of yearly big expansions.

Bungie made a stream today to talk about what they'll do in Destiny 2 after The Final Shape, this is where the codename was shown. They also mentioned "Destiny year 11" refering to the next year.

All wrong.

Frontiers is the codename of the next expansion not the next series of episodes. Typical Yurinka fake news.

They’ll drop last gen support with the next expansion.

I mean, does this sound like an expansion? For all we know, this might mean they will restart the game so people can finally play it from the start.

Bullshit.

In the OP you have an article and the video from Bungie called "the journey ahead" where they talk about the episodes that there wil be this year 10 replacing the 4 seasons per year format they had before since Forsaken, and mentioned that in the year 11 (2025) "the journey continues" with the "codename frontiers" content, which they didn't say was going to be a yearly expansion like the previous ones.

In the game's website Bungie mentions "Starting in 2024, Episodes will be replacing Seasons as our new way of storytelling and content update format for Destiny 2. Each Episode will contain new story content and rewards, including a new Exotic mission, Exotic weapon and armor. Episodes will be split into three Acts, with a new Act releasing every six weeks—containing new stories, quests, activities, weapons, artifact mods, pass ranks, and rewards. Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy will be the first three Episodes, coming in The Final Shape year." Meaning, the new episodes content update format will continue in 2025.

In fact The Verge mentions "It’s not clear what storyline the Frontiers content will cover, but it doesn’t seem to be the big annual expansion that Bungie typically puts out for Destiny 2".

When you don't like facts doesn't mean they are fake news. It just means you don't like them. If you can't accept them is your issue, not mine.

To perform personal attacks to the people you disagree with only makes you look bad, and maybe potentially earn some warning or ban. It's better to politely properly debate confronting facts with other facts instead. As in this case would be saying "No, you, The Verge and Bungie are wrong, because *insert here some proper source if possible as -or more- credible than The Verge and Bungie* confirmed that they'll have another big yearly expansion in 2025 and they'll go back to the previous format of 4 seasons per big yearly expansion."

I mean, does this sound like an expansion? For all we know, this might mean they will restart the game so people can finally play it from the start.
That would be cool. Or maybe not restart everything, but at least regarding in the story part to allow players to play the story content since the very start of Destiny, maybe limited to the key parts to don't make it too long, and adapted to the current mechanics/etc., remastered and including the cinematics to tell the story.

It would help to come back players who left Destiny many years ago, and would also help new players who could join now or in the future once movie/tv shows or Destiny 3 are released. And would give some nostalgic content for players who continue engaged.

Regarding PvP and the other non-story stuff would continue with the current stuff.

Verge article lmfao. It was a video bruh and they’re regurgitating info.

Bungie has been very clear with their language that they’re continuing Destiny 2. Directly from Luke Smith’s mouth. And oh look, they just dated the next expansion. I know what Bungie has specifically said. You should be the one checking receipts on your own bullshit but you continue to double down own your own brand of fake news.

Literally everything Yurinka has ever mentioned about D3 has been conjecture pulled directly from his ass.

D3 could happen … like in another decade lol

Bungie needs the game every year, every month and every day for consistent revenue. There’s no reason to believe Marathon could replicate that. Destiny is their cash cow. A D3 from scratch sorta needs Marathon and Gummy Bears to make bank otherwise they’re never leaving D2.

More than likely, considering they just made Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns f2p just like vanilla and forsaken were f2p before they were DELETED… Destiny will most likely drop last gen with Frontiers as plans are to have shared engine development alongside Marathon for the Destiny engine moving forward.

Frontiers is expected to move the game out of the Sol system. It is being telegraphed narratively with the return of the dreadnauhgt (watch the byf video)

Activision contract???

Details about the original Activision 10 year plan now learned was 5 boxed (numbered) releases, 2 dlc and one expansion per boxed release. Fairly certain at this point that Marathon actually started as Activision’s D3 considering the leads that started it.

They didn't date any next expansion because they have not announced any next expansion. You are mading this up.

Bungie instead said they'll continue supporting Destiny 2, but switching to this new 3 episodes per year format for 2024 and beyond. And that their 2025 content is codenamed Frontier. That's all.

I posted the exact quotes and direct source.

You should be the one checking receipts on your own bullshit but you continue to double down own your own brand of fake news.
wtf are you talking about? I'm posted literal quotes and original sources, even directly from Bungie. If you think these are fake news then you better seek a therapist.

And stop attacking me with that stupid childish stuff and start behaving like a decent person.

Obviously when I say they may be working also on Destiny 3 is just an speculation because they never announced it. But I know Bungie basically doubled their manpower since they announced the acquisition and since they planned to make Destiny movie/tv show adaptations I assume it's to work in -in addition to other projects- Destiny 3 and not Knack 3.

Bungie needs the game every year, every month and every day for consistent revenue. There’s no reason to believe Marathon could replicate that. Destiny is their cash cow. A D3 from scratch sorta needs Marathon and Gummy Bears to make bank otherwise they’re never leaving D2.
Bungie has around 1500+ employees, meaning they have enough people to have at least half a dozen AAA games under production. They won't wait until D2 is over to start developing D3. Pretty likely have been working on it at least since the moment Sony signed them and started to work, because D2 is old for being a GaaS and some day will end, and Sony will want them to continue with more Destiny games just after it, in addition to other IPs (as would be Marathon or Matter), to get the money they paid for the acquisition back.

And yes, Halo and Destiny -plus the many millions of views of its teaser- are reasons to believe Marathon can replicate the Destiny 2 success.

If the new engine to be used in Marathon is too different pretty likely would make more sense to start using it in Destiny 3 than migrating all the huge amount of Destiny 2 stuff they have to the new engine, which would require a lot of work and money. When a GaaS is in its sunseting stage devs decrease the investment on it, they don't increase it. And well, having a bigger quality jump would make players see with better eyes the new sequel. Also, in this stage to leave behind players not sure if it would be a good idea unless they're a tiny portion of the userbase. The more users and revenue they generate, the better.

Regarding Frontiers I asuume that yes, the codename could refer to the frontiers of our solar system. And maybe also to the frontier between Destiny 2 and other Destiny products as could be Destiny 3, Destiny 1, a potential Destiny mobile game or the movie/animation or regarding platforms, even if only are planting seeds to continue them in other products in terms of lore. Who knows if they could even refer to platforms, maybe even (doubt it) have planned Switch 2 and mobile versions of D2.

Assuming that as was rumored/"leaked" they started to work on Destiny 3 back in February 2022, a late 2027/early 2028 release on time for PS6 launch would be possible, with maybe having the last D2 season in 2026 or 2027.

Details about the original Activision 10 year plan now learned was 5 boxed (numbered) releases, 2 dlc and one expansion per boxed release. Fairly certain at this point that Marathon actually started as Activision’s D3 considering the leads that started it.
Their contract with Activision was leaked, revealing the detailes of original 10 years plan that included 3 games and (can't remember well, would need to search it) two big expansions (maybe boxed).

As I remember the original 10 years plan changed (separated from AB, went F2P, decided to expand it beyond the 10 years, etc.), and at least part of the stuff they planned for D3 was included in D2 expansions. But again, I don't remember the details.

I don't think any game can go forever. Even Counterstrike has needed multiple updates over years

Destiny 3 is inevitable just a matter of when

Yurinka posting more nonsense that’s not worth reading.

Episodes replaces/changes the tired seasonal model that no one wanted anymore. We’ve known this for over a year.

And they announced the next expansion yesterday. Very cut and dry.

And no, the leaked Activision deal what exactly what I wrote. 10 years. 5 boxed games. I’m done correcting you. Everything you’ve written is your own fantasy.
