This is tough but, just based on dev studios I'd have to be forced between Arc System Works and Ember Lab.

Arc System Works because no one does anime fighters like them, they have IP like GG which are pretty much synonymous with PlayStation, the vast majority of their audience are on PlayStation, they cover the fighting game angle and as DBZ Fighterz showed, they can have a mainstream hit with the right license. Imagine their take on a Marvel fighter with Spiderman in there for example, it'd be crazy huge. I also think they bring some needed variety to the 1P offerings from a visual and gameplay POV, and could definitely do some ambitious stuff outside of even fighters (like Vanillaware-esque JRPGs/beat-em-ups etc.) if they wanted.

Ember Lab has a lot of promise as a developer and clearly some great artistic eye. With Sony 1P resources and support, they could definitely do stuff even more ambitious than Kena and, again, bring a unique flavor that Sony's other teams (outside of maybe Team Asobi and Pixelpous) aren't necessarily going for. Very much worth bring that talent in-house and letting them flourish.

Honestly I couldn't pick between the two; they both add some usefulness to 1P variety. If I could throw a 3rd pick, it'd be Lucid; Destruction All-Stars may've bombed but it was more than technically competent and had some good ideas & potential. They could do some great stuff with another IP; if they're not involved with the Twisted Metal game for example, I would like to see what they could do for Jet Moto, or Wipeout etc. I think there's room to grow both of those IP and make them like Sony's Forza Horizon staple (but more innovative).

Control and even more so Quantum Break were cinematic. They just didn't last for 50+ hours. lol

I agree that Sony needs someone who does Western RPG's but outside of CDPR, there's not really many out there that would fit in with Sony. I know people mentioned Larian but aren't their games isometric? If so, I don't see Sony doing that and they seem to have completely gone away from that. Sackboy is probably the closest to this camera perspective this generation.

Bungie was a good purchase but if they release their future games on anything more than PC/PS, then I really don't see the benefit being as big as it should be. I get that they can help with Sony's 10+ live service games and any games that are first person shooter based but if anything, this remains to be seen how it all works out.

I don't see why Guerrilla Games couldn't do a more full-blown WRPG-style Horizon game. The current ones already have RPG mechanics in them, the team seems interested in those type of systems. I won't be surprised if Horizon 3 is even more in on the RPG mechanics, and the game universe itself has a lot of room for that to work.

Given that, do Sony really NEED CDPR? CDPR really just have The Witcher and Cyberpunk, not much else in terms of relevant IP. I just feel like CDPR would be redundant for Sony, let alone Microsoft, who are already saturated with WRPG studios between Bethesda and Obsidian. I think CDPR would function best remaining a 3P and maybe showing they can do more with Cyberpunk or have another pillar IP to run with.

Yeah, I hate this GAAS nonsense.... it's like they are forgetting who their audience is.

They couldn't even read the fallout from Destruction Allstars.
The thing is that games are getting astronomically expensive. Selling titles at just $70 is no longer enough and $70 is EXTREMELY cheap now-days in relation to the cost of the game development. It's not cheap for the consumer, but it's cheap in reality of how the gaming industry operates and what actually costs to make a high profile title. Single Player titles can only bring in so much money. Yes, they are successful sure, but the costs are getting more and more. GAAS can counter balance that, there is a reason why Sony bought Bungie and is promising 10 Live Service titles by 2025. The Last of Us Factions will be one of the first ones along with the Horizon MMO is my prediction.

Thats all down to mis-management. Plenty of AA and indie games are able to compete in the modern market, often with "good" graphics or long play-times, and at a price-point much lower than 70 dollars.

No dude. Mismanagement has nothing to do with games costing $70. I am not sure how that is related. PS and MS games are starting to become $70. So everyone is mis-managing..? What?

I work in the industry and talk to devs and publishers all the time. People outside that sphere have absolutely no clue what really goes down when it comes to game development costs.

Do you know why most indies go for the color style of visuals or more cartoony look? Easier to market, easier to make look good, cheaper and a lot easier to scale on low end machines. Realistic looking titles are a lot more expensive, because making things look realistic is a daunting and challenging task. Also, realistic titles tend to age way worse.

AA games compete with other AA games yes, but those titles don't cost $70 nor are they expensive. I am not sure why you sre comparing those? We are talking abiut regular AAA games. Indie games are in their own league, no one is saying they are not marketable or doable.

Games costing too much to develop.

Then make a cartoony looking or stylized game. Its that simple. If you can't come up with a sales plan that is going to get your game to profitability don't make the game or make it "smaller" with smarter planning.

And AA and indie games totally do compete with AAA games. A purchase is a purchase and consumer time is limited, if someone buys Snowrunner (AA) instead of Tomb Raider (AAA) then the consumer has made his choice. Maybe your friends in the industry should take people's purchasing choices into greater account next time.

if 85% of xbox sales are digital and let's say 50% are physical on ps, then an 80-20 split in favor of ps, it implies a console sales split of 1.35:1. Of course that's only if the 85% digital split holds for AAA titles as that seems to only be for overall sales - we don't know if Series S buyers are as interested in AAA games statistically speaking.

Kojima. Don't care about anybody else. And if they had to. Just get square and capcom. Nothing else matters.
