That's not a bug, that's a feature lol

They don't want you to be able to use your own/preferred headphones.
That's why I am asking to fix it to allow it. I wouldn't call it a feature lol, purposely blocking it. Nintendo at least let it slide when the OLED came out.

It was a joke. It's not a feature.

What other predictions do you have? Please tell me we will get a new Uncharted this generation

I also predicted that we'd see Ghost of Tsushima 2 by the end of the year (though I had hoped we wouldn't)
  • That Sony will launch a PC Storefront/Launcher
    • This one is harder to timeout, job listings don't make it clear that they're even close and Marathon is clearly coming to Steam. That tells me that it's probably more than a year out. I think it's possible that GTA6 could launch exclusively on the PS Storefront, royalty free. So maybe a year or two after next fall.
  • That Sony will launch a PS Handheld before the PS6 and no later than Holiday 2026.
    • MLID said they were 2 years out at least and that was 9 months ago. I don't think they'll want to give Nintendo too much of a headstart.
  • That there won't be a permanent price cut for the PS5 until after GTA6 launches
    • Sony doesn't need to drop the price of the PS5 until MAUs start to decrease and they won't decrease with the release of GTA6 and current gen only releases of EA FC, Madden, NBA 2K, e.t.c.
  • That the PS5 will outsell the PS4
    • PS5 is on trajectory to outsell the PS4 and GTA6 and a longer life span will ensure it
  • That Sony will release an OLED model of the PS Portal for 250.
    • With increased interest and demand, with expanding feature set, I think they'll explore a slightly higher priced model
  • That Sony will close down Firesprite by the end of the generation and within a year of their next release
    • I've looked at their glassdoor reviews and the morale is terrible. They were never a great studio to begin with and I think Sony just wanted to take a shot at having a VR studio and now that that's diminished they don't really need to keep this studio around
  • Until Dawn will get a VR mode -- This one I might end up wrong about (although ironically Firesprite might end up being the ones who do it)

As for games like Uncharted. I do think we'll get a new Uncharted this generation, but I wouldn't say I'm confident about it. The cast of Uncharted said they weren't going to do another one after 4 because of everything that went down with Amy Henning and I think it would be a difficult voice cast to recast even in a reboot. I know that there are rumors that Naughty Dog is advising a team on it but not handling it themselves. We also know that Sony rushed Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy to PS5 and PC rather than porting Uncharted 1-3.

I could imagine the cast of Uncharted changing their mind and them redoing Uncharted 1-3, but then there is also the suggestion of rebooting Uncharted with and older Drake and his daughter.

tldr I don't have any predictions on that franchise, way too much flux around it.

But ask me how I knew Portal was getting Cloud support and that they'd get it by the end of the year?

Pretty simply analysis of what the product was and project timelines. The product has been on the market for a year. Difficult to add new features a lot more than a year out and still have an impact.

PSVR2 they announced the PC support was coming around the 1 year anniversary mark. Although it didn't release within a year, they announced it to keep it fresh in people's minds. Ultimately that project was significantly delayed, and my guess it was due to covid. I still think there is a good chance that they use discounting this holiday season to run through inventory and then reveal a wireless model next year.

Brazil and Australia aren't really big regions. Brazil has terrible data infrastructure and I can only imagine that Australia would be extremely pricey to build out. It's super remote.

Brazil: 216M in population
Australia: 26,6M in population

you have to be INSANE to think these are not big regions.

you have to be INSANE to think these are not big regions.

Calm down, take a breath and consider the context.

When it comes to availability Microsoft has a massive advantage over Sony simply because of Azure. They're already everywhere, it's baked in. For Sony to get datacenters up in running in these areas JUST for gaming... is simply expensive.

Yes, they are big countries and a lot of people game in them, but the return on investment for infrastructure isn't there yet for either country. That can change over time, but that's the reason why Sony isn't in there for cloud streaming.

Not only does Sony need to get datacenters they need to get expensive PS5 server blades going. Sony has just recently started selling PS5s at a profit despite what was said by Bloomberg. They have to consider thoughtfully where they put these things and where they can overlap with other regions in an efficient way.

Brazil is also physically a massive country which makes it even more difficult to service them because you probably want to have better approximation to the end user. Gamers per square mile is going to be a problem and certainly not as dense as you're seeing in those supported countries.

Next step is a PS+ app on Sony TVs.

Get that cloud market going and become a leader early. Include a DualSense with every TV sold.
they should put PS Link integrated on their TVs for compatibility for PS Accessories and do a PlayStation App to push their TVs

i don't think you quite understand what i'm trying to say, due to taxes for the brazilian market specifically, a PS5 is worth 3,5k BRL here, for context, the minimum wage here is like 1,5K BRL, so a person that only receives one minimum wage has to work 2 months to purchase a PlayStation console, even with these prices, Brazil it's like inside the top 10 gaming markets in the world, ahead of countries in Europe where prices are way cheaper for an average consumer, Cloud Gaming completely removes the barrier for entry for someone who simply cannot afford a console

PS Now wasn't avaliable here and in many other countries, once they bundled the service in PS Plus and brought that to Brazil and many other countries, we saw PS Now numbers jumping from like 3M to now more than 15M subscribers (Extra/Deluxe *Deluxe is a variation of Premium without Cloud capabilities), and this is being limited to the console user, imagine the amount of growth for PS Plus on Cloud through Mobile/PC/Smart TVs, they could easily achieve 100M+ subscribers for Plus and Brazil would be a key market to that due to prices.

This is absolutely correct.

Providing a Dual Sense with every tv also motivates people to buy the PS5 console, but if they don't want to at least cloud is available to them and why waste the controller.

There might be fear in decreasing peripherals revenue, but it'll at least be offset by increased tv revenue or services revenue.

Same thing with Crunchyroll. It should come free for 3 months with the tv, but it should also be a part of PS+ Premium. Personally I'm dropping to PS+ Extra or Essential once my stack runs out.

if Americans complain about paying $700 USD on a console, imagine paying like $3.000 USD like we do, imagine paying $1.000+ USD for consoles and $100 USD for each game like Australians do, you guys don't really realize how privileged y'all are compared to other countries.

if Trump really introduces taxes to imported products you guys are gonna have a very big surprise paying $700 for a base PS5 and $1.000+ for a PS5 Pro

Just tried cloud streaming with miles morales runs really well, if this holds up well for longer sessions I might replace remote play with cloud streaming. But might still use remote play for games that are noticeably pro enhanced, as I don't think cloud streamed games use ps5 pro.

Pro is the only real reason for remote play at this point. Well, post-beta.

Sony may have read the market better than most of us in terms of having a low cost portable that does what a lot of people need it to.

Like I've said before, I've really never seen anyone in public with a Switch. I think most people play at home. If that's the case, streaming might not be a huge barrier for people.

Maybe more importantly, it can bookend what might be a bit of an expensive system in the PS handheld.

Imagine the Portal getting a price cut to 150 being the cheapest entry into PS gaming in decades, and an OLED model running for 200 and then the handheld releases for 450 or 500 maybe even several models.

I think there's still a market for a true portable with like a 6-6.5 inch screen.
