Id say some stories, worlds, games etc are harder to work without the creator.

For example Game of Thrones was pretty obvious it doesnt work ( needs the writers story) . LOTR is struggling coming up with new stuff.

But then you have Star Wars. Some games and stories are great outside of George Lucas indeas and some have been a disaster.

I cant really see someone filling in the MGS story without Kojima. Which its mostly done anyway. Sequels and remakes, yeah they can be done. But it would take someone unique to do it.
Its his wacky take on the world and he’s pretty unique i story telling/lore

I guess it depends on the type of story, lore, game etc.

Don’t agree. None of the material you mentioned failed because the creator isn’t involved, it failed either because they were either rushed or exec driven soup.

LOTR is a small universe and actually a rather small story. For it to work you have to break away and expand instead of revolving around the original story.

Of course some attempts will be better than others. That’s just the way it is, look at MGS, even though Kojima was behind all of them not all hit. Curiously enough the best written MGS is MGS1 and it’s the English translation that made it work so well, because the writers responsible for the English version did a lot of work to make it sound less ridiculous, which Kojima hated. MGS4, MGS V, Death Stranding just kept getting worse and worse from a writing/story/characters perspective. Death Stranding worked despite Kojima weirdness.

Xbox lost the console war. Console sales have flatlined and xbox owners aren't buying games in a scale that could ever threaten Sony. We're also 4 years into the generation so it's not like there are many chances for PS5 owners to migrate to Xbox at this point.

Just look at user review counts for recently released multiplatform games. Dragon Age Veilguard has >2200 user reviews for the PS5 and 250 for Xbox Series.

It just doesn't matter that games are releasing on Xbox. This generation is lost for Microsoft.
Thats no question. Xbox is kinda no more and will be fully rebranded as Gamepass and Windows store as they license out console OS to third party boxes like the first steam machine concepts.

Sony split its stock. Shuttered failed studios. And sold off Death Stranding. They probably just want cash. Which they will get considering new hardware launching.

It’s unfortunate to lose a Kojima Ip.

This is what makes the (over)reactions even funnier. Xbox is beyond repair at this point.

LOTR I agree with.
GOT failed because they dont have the back story the author has yet to give from winds of winter and the last book. No1 else can come up with it because its his lore and creation, it would be based on guess work.

Writing dialogue and scenes I can understand being changed and improved but they would be able to change or do the story.
He might not be the greatest writer but I think the story getting worse and worse is just subjective, I enjoyed the story in MGS5, Death Stranding etc. Not everyone is a fan of it. But as a fan of his work, I personally I would care less about MGS story sequel if Kojima isnt writing it

He'll crawl back to Sony just like he did when The Twin Snakes flopped on Gamecube.

Sony has less and less power with 3rd party it seems.

I dont know how they fix this without buying.
They arent Nintendo, and they dont have enough studios working fast enough making new ips or games. And its always a 50/50% if it works out with new ips.

Its not a doom post. But how can they improve this and stop it from happening? Or do they not stop it from happening.

I remember hearing Hermen getting the credit for getting a deal with Kojima again. Does he deserve the credit for not securing the IP’s…

Does he get credit for Andrew House’s deal with Death Stranding now going to Xbox and probably gamepass one day? If he’s just a puppet why have him, he must be involved in some way, making decisions. Sony lending out there game Engine out now lol
What are you smoking, they saved their year with a pair of mainland Asia-developed exclusives that they went out and found. This allowed them to stop relying on S-E, not the other way around. Third paty relations are probably the only bright spot in their portfolio right now for gamers.

Yes FF7, Hell Divers 2 and Stellar Blade helped them this year. Wu Kong wasnt a exclusive deal

Square said they are no longer doing exclusives. And Stellar Blade was from a new studio and will probably go multiplatform soon. S

My point was thats it seems harder and harder for Sony to keep exclusives with the likes of Sega, Capcom, Namco, Sega, FromSoft, Konami. All which had PS centric titles and had a exclusive games together.
With Square and Sega saying it, they’ve all basically said they dont want to do exclusives anymore. You dont need much to smoke to get that point I was making

Kojima will be fine, lol. There are only a handful of game directors in the industry with the same level of immediate name recognition.

Isn’t his next game announced with Herman being more intimately developed with Playststion studios internally?

I wonder if Death Stranding always had something in the contract where Kojima could buy it after X amount of time.

So you wonder what they agreed to for the next one. I’m very hyped at Kojima going back to the action genre.

Why should 3rd parties enter an exclusiveness deal when PlayStation themselves are going multiplatform?

I still dont see them publishing games on other consoles.
If they go down that route then its not needed but would all be stupid of them

Lol my bad i meant a game made by one of there own studios. I think its a rare games like a lego game that be part of the exceptions like MLB.

Until then it what it is. If they go proper Multiplatform then thats there mistake to make

There is a difference between MLB and LEGO Horizon. The former is published by MLB, Horizon by PlayStation themselves. Why would PlayStation set up as publisher for Switch if they intended to do it for just one game?

And the game is co-developed by Guerilla.

Insomniac stuck making marvel is actually a huge bummer. But they’d rather sell off Death Stranding and license more from Disney.

The thing is… even if Marvel is now junk to the point they needed Downey Jr. back … I do expect Insomniac to pull it off just because X men has an epic ton of potential.

So Sony’s marvel partnership will pay off I’d bet because it’s Insomniac.

With that said, what was more valuable… the IPs being licensed or Insomniac to pull it off? Devs teams over IPs everyday of the week. That is the only way. Star Wars and Halo are now piles of shit.

Sony partnering with Kojima AGAIN for a future IP action game gives the impression they still want to work with him. I mean you’ve been working with the dude since MGS2.

Selling Death Stranding and not offering Kojima everything he wants to buy his company is mistake when his games have defined all PlayStation consoles since the PS1.
hope insomniac revisit the concept of Sunset overdrive. It had so much potential even something more of a singleplayer 4 player coop or pve/pvp focus multiplayer would be cool maybe it could be for ratchet but Sunset Overdrive should’ve been the blueprint for the Marvel multiplayer game instead of focusing on hyper graphics lean more to smooth Valorant/Sunset Overdrive art style that easier to develop hell maybe even look at Genshin Impact & go w a anime style art style so it can be developed for PS & Mobile w a heavier focus on mobile. There isn’t a open world gacha Marvel game like Hoyoverse games on mobile or even on console & lean more w PVE

And the game is co-developed by Guerilla.

Exactly this. More is planned; you don't establish a publishing arm for a one-off. I can see SIE bringing over a lot of their older platformers (Jak & Daxter 1-3, Sly Cooper 1-3, older Rachet & Clank titles etc.) to Switch and I won't be surprised if they open up PS1 emulation for NSO+ the way companies like SEGA & NEC/Hudson already do.

Now, when I was discussing what I felt was an optimal multiplatform strategy, it did include ports of super-legacy games like J&D, Sly Cooper etc. as say remastered QOL collections. But I always predicated that on 1: those being remasters, 2: them being PS3 gen or older and, 3: PS consoles getting an exclusive new entry or exclusive new equivalent within 1-2 years of such a multiplatform release.

Needless to say, point (3) is going to be extremely rare from SIE I feel and even point (2) will likely be rare because I can see them bringing games like Tearaway & Infamous: Second Son to Switch 2. So ultimately, do all of these ports mean more games for PS console owners? Well, probably not. I mean, that same rhetoric was used to justify the PC ports, yet mainly what we've seen are:

1: More GAAS (not exactly the "more games" that console loyalists were looking forward to)
2: Maybe a 3P exclusive or two (which for AAA games is seemingly drying up, even among Japanese 3P i.e SEGA/Atlus, Square-Enix, From Software etc.)
3: More budget for a couple tentpole 1P non-GAAS AAA games (offset by longer dev times, prep work for shorter port intervals between console & PC, and redesign work i.e Wolverine, Spiderman 3 etc.)
4: Yet more PC ports
5: Senseless remasters (i.e HZD Remastered) or questionable remakes (i.e TLOU Remake)

And out of those five points, none on their own & few together really create a value-add for the console owner, if we're talking a console owner who has suitable alternatives. Hence, why it's quite fair to question how PS5 Pro momentum holds long-term, let alone what drop-offs PS6 early adoption can face (especially if it's mostly just more of the same).

It’s not just value for the PS console the PS console is also the PS storefront so a lack of focus on your own console/storefront will lead to partners like Square dip as why sign exclusive deals when even you yourself is releasing games multiplat & you have hardware & a storefront. As shown w Xbox if you lack focus on your own hardware & storefront 3rd party will also skip your platform as 3rd party will focus on platforms such as Steam & Nintendo that have permanent exclusive & get & or will get many exclusive from 1st & 3rd party that will drive consumers both new & old. Funny enough the moves PS could make that will grow the PS audience bringing a younger audience & fans still on PS4 to PS5 PS is completely ignoring you can even argue Nintendo themselves are doing it by getting Banjo on the Nintendo Switch storefront making Xbox obsolete for banjo as Nintendo further strengthen that franchise w Nintendo it will make it where if Xbox/MS wants to bring Banjo it will have to be day n date on Nintendo just cause the heavy associating. Nintendo is pulling all the right moves making Mario annualized & I would expect Pokemon & other franchise like Zelda & Splattoon to be annualized to really cater & feed the fanbase in those franchise every year which imo is the bare minimum to fully extract as much from a consumer in the franchise you own. If Astro Bot wasn’t a clear sign PS needs to annualized Ratchet & clank w rift apart being the fastest & best selling premium Ratchet & Clank game even at $70, pandemic & low PS5 user base back in 2021. PS needs to bring back Jak & Daxter, Sly cooper & Ape escape all franchise that can be annualized both AAA & AA really PS should explore & be more aggressive w pricing such as $40 & $50 games atleast for these AA smaller scope game. PS is seriously behind in consolidation, strategy, ip, gaming output, multi team studio structure etc PS production have been great but needs to grow larger so PS production can release quality cross media w games atleast 3-4 project every year (maybe but Kadokawa/Fromsoft to gain more anime/manga studios) PS at large should be a gaming/entertainment w major output in both & synergizing both games, cross media & merchandise/toys like what Nintendo is & will do once they get there cross media & parks set up. PS lacks in merchandise & toys there should be a universal Horizon, Demon Souls (castle & dragon god) & LocoRoco park that target a new audience (one that’s younger & or families) that don’t know or could like PS with the previous mention franchise but instead PS/Herman view of expanding & building it’s business is releasing games on competiting platform/storefronts diminishing the PS platform/ecosystem wasting time & money on a user base that already knows your brand & if they where interested already has your platform or if they didn’t will now no longer buy a PS console essentially making it where you permanently lost that consumer forever as they stay on there preferred platform it’s all short sighted w many of Sony division overlapping itself making Sony spend a large amount of money on divisions that bring in or would bring in the same audience if it wasn’t under one roof. Nintendo folded there console & mobile division under one roof funneling both consumer base into the Nintendo ecosystem.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo consoles in the future allow you to make phone calls essentially acting as a mobile/phone device making Nintendo console almost the only device you would need in Japan to really find all entertainment & tool to function as a society which they already do w 1/3 of Japan owning a Nintendo Switch console if I’m correct. You saw this same mindset w PS back in the PSP era where you could use the PSP as a portable gps & also had other functions like a camera to take pictures if you didn’t have a phone. Either way PS is looking at the short term while PS, Valve/Steam & Apple are looking long term where entertainment & gaming is under one portable device allowing you to access any for of media or tool digital anywhere you are. In the case of Apple they are only lacking AA & AAA console/PC game which I could see change with iPhones or if Apple makes a Apple hybrid handheld that did everything IPhones did but also played AAA console & PC w the already large iOS mobile game library.
