Destiny 2 developer Bungie is the latest PlayStation studio to have layoffs. Full scope isn't clear yet, but CEO Pete Parsons emailed the company this morning to say they'll be having a team meeting today to talk about "some news today coming out of Bungie" as staff are informed

Another non Jason Source for people who don't like him. What a waste of money for Jim Ryan and Sony.

Waste of money? Layoffs are happening in almost every company and sector including Activision, Nintendo, etc This is the opposite of "waste of money" it's to not waste money on unnecessary personnel.

Yep, the Bungie acquisition was a colossal waste of money with no exclusive benefits for Playstation players and a GAAS mandate from developers who apparently can't even keep all their employees.

Your spin on everthing Sony has been negative so I'll let them tell me when it's a waste of money. They have professionals that decide tht and I doubt for them having the devs who have a highly popular mp game and helped create Halo and know alot about FPS shooters is a waste of money for them.

In the last couple of years again Activision, Nintendo, other Sony Studios, Ubisoft, Epic, Microsoft, etc all have had layoffs. They all a waste of money 😂

It wasn't a waste of money. They are good developers. Lays off is happening everywhere. It will be sensationalized because they are now Playstation aligned but they will be shining bright in the next coming years... Just wait.

Uh oh ... "just wait" has been the refrain of another platform holder, and I don't think that's worked out too well for them.

Jim Ryan gone(good), Connie Booth gone, layoffs at Media Molecule, layoffs at Visual Arts studios, layoffs at Naughty Dog, layoffs at Bungie. Something is uniquely going wrong with playstation within these last few months.

Also, Sony bought Bungie solely for their GAAS experience then laying off what looks like their PR and community people, the exact people you need to talk to your community for gaas games is ridiculous.

It could be I'm not saying it's not. I just know the industry as a whole is experiencing layoffs.

It’s a tremendous egg on face moment that they bought bungie in part to teach them how to do gaas only for them to pivot away from it and fire people from said company you hired to help you. Jim Ryan and gaas has been a disaster. Almost all of Sonys studios have seen layoffs and it’s only Monday. Canceled projects, studio closures, lay offs. Jim Ryan was asleep at the wheel.

No one likes to admit it but not all staff is essential to the success of a studio. Layoffs typically consist of those roles.
Judging by the fact that layoffs followed game delays in both naughty dog and bungie, everyone seems pretty damn essential. No justification for layoffs when they can't even get their projects out of the door with the amount of people they already have.
