Gaming culture doesn't have a problem. Most people enjoy their hobby and share their passion normally, nothing wrong with it.

But obviously between the 3 Billion players statistically there must be assholes, in the same proportion than in any other large group. And that includes those who attack and demonize with dumb generalizations hundreds of millions of players.

Same goes with internet, social media or twitter. There are hundreds of millions of people, most behaving decently but obviously a noisy small percentage of noisy assholes who standout. Same as in any large group.

Well, in some corners of the internet speaking ill of gamepass will get you perma banned. So there is that.

But yes, it's not like the old days with the magazines, I know I spend less time looking at games previews. These days I barely have time for the block busters.

The problem starts with trying to define what gaming is. It used to be simple, then around 2005 with the introduction of smart phones and giving every mong an opinion on a hobby they either; didn't know about or didn't care about, has led to the lines being blurred. I'm not saying opinions are wrong, they're not, they're just opinions, but we've lost our hierarchy.

Combine that with gaming journalists who either; don't know about the industry or don't care about the industry, and it makes matters worse. reviewers who either; Can't play a game or don't want to play a game, trying to tell hobbyists about their hobby has led to a fracture between who can and can't be trusted. Whose opinions are based on truth, honesty and data and whose opinions are based on how much they're getting paid and by whom.

Catalyse that with what @Bryank75 said in the op, that social media and an insatiable lust for clicks has led to toxic discussions and we find ourselves in the sorry state that we're in.

I miss the days when I could listen in owe to the PC master race discussing their rigs and work arounds, or flick through mags of tits, raunchy jokes and point by point technical analysis.

I suppose the easiest way to tell if someone is a gamer is to ask them voigt-kompff style questions:

"You see a booth babe at e3 dressed sexily in armour waving a sword. What do you do?"
"There's a new game coming out with a female protagonist. How do you view this?"

This is the rise of communications people in the hobby, just like in many hobbies, it dilutes the depth of understanding and makes content more "professional".

just one green side parroting about subs services.. the other blue side is just chilling with games.
If you are chilling with games then why are you here crying about the green side 24/7 on the interwebs? Don't you have games to chill with?

Gaming culture does not have a problem, gaming journalism and gaming media has a problem. Well, maybe gaming culture has a problem in the acceptance of ridiculous modes of monetization and the mobile-gamification of everything. Stop acting like 5-10 twitter personalities are "gaming culture".

There's some people who seem like they only engage with gaming for the outrage, social media shenanigans, etc. Then there's those who really identify with a brand or game or whatever, maybe unhealthily so in some cases. But all these people are tiny subsets in a much larger group. Gaming is about playing and enjoying games and that's what the majority of people do. Even the people in the video you linked seem enmeshed in "gaming culture" but, again, a small number of people do not and cannot represent the millions of people who play games.

hopefully when xbox exits the hardware business, the gaming culture can begin to heal.

Subscription fanboys, corporate cheerleading, and acquistion begging have been weighing us down for YEARS now.

PC Mustard race elitists too, they're one of the absolute worst, most toxic parts about this industry.

Let's get back to the games, folks.

Game production is most certainly at the mercy of woke politics, no question.

There are themes that were common that can never be explored again. I’m playing GOW Rgnarok and it feels like it has no teeth and certainly never can be what it used to be.

GOW 3 as an example was pure masculinity and misogyny - but that was the intention of the character. I recall rescuing a maiden only to use her as a door stop to prop up a death door - hilariously unexpected. Not to mention the risqué female representation etc.

Creation should not be cornered and limited like this.

You need a therapist my friend. You sound so angry and so bitter. Are you going through hardships in life right now? Why are random people who have no relation to you are making you so mad? Why do you care what someone says on the internet? You will never see or meet these people. Do you need to let something off your chest? DM me, I don't want you to hurt yourself. Let's talk so I can help you out.
