DualSense Edge Price & Content

Better start saving: the DualSense Edge controller will cost $199.99 / £209.99 / €239.99.

The product comes with a mountain of extras, here's everything you get for the price:
  • DualSense Edge wireless controller
  • Carrying case
  • USB cable
  • 2 Half dome back buttons
  • 2 Lever back buttons
  • 2 Standard caps
  • 2 High dome caps
  • 2 Low dome caps
  • Connector housing

Positive Points:

  • The most premium PS5 controller available
  • Hugely customisable
  • Slick software integration
  • Clever function buttons
  • Good software integration
  • It’s easier than expected to take full advantage of the added features

Negative Points:

  • Battery life hasn't been improved
  • Costs half as much as a PS5
  • Replaceable stick modules use drift-prone joystick tech

Critic Reviews:

VGC - 4/5

At $200, DualSense Edge was never going to appeal to everyone. But for competitive players, the quality of its build, slick software integration and huge amount of customisation options means it’s undoubtedly the most premium PS5 controller you can buy.
TheVerge - 3/5
Sony’s DualSense Edge is like a director’s cut of a movie that improves on the original vision but costs 185 percent more to watch. Enjoyment is always hard to quantify, but this $199.99 controller (almost the cost of three DualSense gamepads) is stuffed with features that might be worth that extra cost to you, or not.
IGN - 9/10
The DualSense Edge controller puts its customization front and center with its slick software and intuitive Function buttons, finally giving PlayStation owners an answer to the venerated Xbox Elite.
Polygon: Not Recommended
The DualSense Edge comes in at $199.99 — half the cost of the digital-only PS5 model. That’s... pretty steep, though it’s not far off from Microsoft’s offering of the Elite Series 2, which is $179.99 (although sales frequently drop it down to around $150). I’m sure that professional streamers and esports athletes will have no problem spending the money and writing it off on their taxes. But for average folk, that a lot to shell out. Does it make playing PS5 games a nicer experience? Unquestionably. Does it give you an advantage to be able to, say, aim and jump at the same time in Fortnite thanks to the back buttons? Yes, it does.
Dexerto - 3/5
This is far from a bad controller, but at $200, it is a tough pill to swallow, and we think that Sony’s hardware design wizards could have done a little better when it comes to designing a controller made for power users and pro gamers, no matter how lovely and slick the software is, the hardware and price don’t quite match up.

The Edge is a big upgrade on the DualSense in a lot of small ways, and it will be my go-to controller for the rest of the PS5’s life cycle I expect. However, is it a $200 upgrade? I’m not sure. The steep price tag hurts my recommendation here - you could get three DualSenses and have change from the price of an Edge. If you’re a hardcore player looking for more ways to min-max your performance with minute customisation, then the Edge is an excellent choice. But for most people, it doesn’t do enough to justify the expense.

The DualSense Edge might come at a premium, but it fills a gap in the PS5 market. With intuitive controls and unrivalled personalisation, the only thing that lets the Edge down is its battery life.
GamesRadar - 3.5/5.0
The DualSense Edge is a premium-feeling controller for PS5. Whilst there are certainly great quality of life updates to be had here, the Edge doesn't truly fix the biggest issues with the DualSense. For the high cost, you can get a slew of third party controllers with more buttons and only a few less features.

Something that should not exists in consoles.
Fair playfield is a must but seems like Sony lose it mind since PS4 Pro.

DualSense Edge – Battery Life

One area that didn’t see any substantial improvement over the standard DualSense is the life of the built-in rechargeable battery, which is something that’s been a common complaint of PlayStation’s controllers for years. During my testing, I received a low battery notification after about 4.5 hours of gameplay, and the controller lost power just shy of 5.5 hours. This number can and will likely vary, as it largely depends on the type of game you’re playing and which features the controller is using frequently – most notably, the more often the haptics fire, the shorter the battery life. Sony hasn’t given any official figures regarding expected battery life for the DualSense Edge, but it’s safe to say it’s definitely not significantly longer than the standard DualSense controller.

Getting a low battery warning after just 4.5 hrs from a full charge is pretty bad.

Interesting too see some sites recommend and others not. Seems like a mixed bag. I've really never bothered to buy any of the fancy controllers for either system. They're way too expensive imo.

Maybe if this had longer battery life I'd consider...but that's kind of a deal breaker. I am sure this controller is fantastic, but not for such a price :/ this is why I never bought the Xbox Elite Controllers either.

Some sites not recommending is blaming the price.
That is weird because price is the last thing people will look in a premium product.
These that put price in first place will mostly like buy the standard Dual Sense no matter the premium option is priced.

These that put price in first place will basically buy the standard Dual Sense.
I'd agree with you halfway. But a controller costing half the PS5 is kind of insane. Premium or not, at most I'd pay $150, not $200.

Where it’s at.
As I stated many times, $200 is just too much!!!
When a base DualSense is $100 in some markets, it’s isn’t that out of line.

Modular devices cost a shitload more to make than non-modular, so the replaceable sticks are definitely something you are not getting for free.

I probably wouldn’t be getting one if I had to pay full price in one pop, but with the arthritis issues I have in my fingers, just having standard back buttons is going to allow me to play games more and play some games that I simply can’t play when my hands act up, so that’s worth a lot to me, personally.

Your mileage may vary.

Totally unacceptable they were not designed to allow you to swap out one of the main components that is prone to actually break, the triggers/springs. I have literally never needed to swap out an analog in my life

And they want 269 CDN for this??? They are out of their fucking minds

Some of those sites also raved about the Xbox Elite control, which costs the same and has major quality and reliability problems.

Makes one think.
