They were definitely in a tough spot with the design. If they wanted to keep the same form factor, something had to give. And unfortunately its the battery size.

Can't say if it was the right decision as the 4-5 hour battery life seems to be one of the common negatives in almost all the reviews.
This is something that Cerny acknowledged as a weakness of the DS4, yet they keep doing it. I get the base controller, it has to be bundled with all ps5 units, but a pro 200$ controller, you kind of expect to have some real QoL benefits.

Where it’s at.
They could have made a small compromise to fit more battery in, or made it like apple where they have a strangely shaped battery that is spread out.

Either way, their design team could have made it work if that was a design goal.
It’s a high-end controller with modular sticks. Making compromises to the controller design to put in a bigger battery would not be the smartest decision, as compromising on the materials or design just for the battery would detract from the other enhancements.

dualsense edge battery is only 1050 mah

Big oof. That's 33% smaller than the default battery. wtf man
I got mine today, and it’s pretty clear from the design that cordless use is more of a bonus feature than a core aspect. The Edge is seriously intended to be a competitive control, and those usually don’t have wireless at all.

So you see that as: "A good bicycle does not come with pedals".

I still don't agree, and I'm definitely not getting one.

No, I see it as complaining about a car not having a full-size spare tire when you’re not really meant to drive on one except for limited circumstances.

And I don’t really give a shit who else buys one or doesn’t, I’m very happy with mine.

They should have gone with AA batteries instead.
Would have loved to see who would defend or criticize that.

Having a choice is always the best option, IMO.

People who want batteries can use that, but if the compartment fits rechargeable packs, even better.

A nice 4-pack of cheap eneloops works great for me. 2 in the controller, 2 on the charger. Get a decent 12~15 hr battery life out of it one charge.

no thanks. Just give me a 2000+ mah internal battery or some sort of extender pack like the elite does.
They sell in Amazon literal battery packs tht go right on the back of the controller and gives you several more hours of play. I use one. This is a non issue.

That's some spin lol "it's meant to be corded more than wireless", bro wireless is the standard now it's a charge cable.
Shhh we are supposed to praise the decision because they admitted that the battery was basically a built-in UPS in case you had a power outage and the controller could not get its power from the cable... (don't mention that the cable is plugged to the console).

I just own 2 controllers and have one always charging, but even the normal battery life for regular dual sense is weak I find, and I don't even use the speaker or the trigger effects.

I would probably actually buy a wired controller instead of wireless if they gave me an option.

If you have power outage, you can't turn on tv, console or any device.
You tried to be smart ass, and didn't think it through, didn't you? 😂

Where it’s at.
So, real-life testing this morning, playing a mix of PS4 and PS5 games, I got 5 hours before getting a low-battery warning.

Not much worse than I usually get from my DualSense pads, and I just plugged in my laptop charger when I got the warning and kept playing.
