Have you played Ragnarok? You will be surprised how it feels like the 2018 game.
It is not how you felt about ME1 to ME2 or U1 to U2.
And I'm not even talking about others issues that where not fixed like bosses to not enter in spoilery level of conversation.
I will do a thread talking about my experience with Ragnarok in the future if I have time.
Congratulations to the Miyazaki, in him we trust. Im gonna play it properly soon but Ive loved all his games.
Some of you need to chill btw, your all gonna have differences in tastes. BOTW, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, TLOU2, all amazing games. Its not exactly a competition.
Lets just hope Miyazaki will work with Playstation again on an exclusive and Sony invest more in FromSoft.
Sony has like 6 games that have over 100 awards and great reviews, TLOU2, TLOU1, God of War 2018, Uncharted 2&4 and Death Stranding, cant fake quality like that

Of course! Best game of the year by a huge margin. And I replayed GOW2018 to warm up for Ragnarök not long before. Huge improvements in all areas.

I agreed with your post until this line. Santa Monica went above and beyond with Ragnarok. GOW is going to get more GOTYs than last year It Takes Two.
GOW was going to win any other year but not this one because of ER (a wonderful game that I loved too.)
That's the issue. Most people that played Ragnarok Day 1 played GOW 2/3+ years ago.
Elden Ring is the same Souls formula too, plays very similar to all the others from PS3 days.

Regardless of TLoU and GOW or even Horizon, elden ring is an overhyped game pushed by media and paid critics because of a large marketing push paid for by Microsoft.
Even all of that aside, ER is a bland, repetitive game rehashing ideas. It's this generations COD; the early games broke boundaries and raised the bar, the later games are cookie cutter crapfests

Thats not always a bad thing dude. There wasn’t much to improve on the combat, some more animations for deaths would of been great but the PS4 wouldnt allow that. Even more bosses and enemy variety of course would of been good. Combat wise its still leagues above most studios.
Graphically its still amongst the best for crossgen, yeah its not as good as Horizon 2 graphically but Id say facial animations and voice acting is at the top with Naughty Dog and RockStar.
Its a larger game than 2018, with more variety in boss fights and mini bosses. Im the type that likes bigger games, especially when the combat and story telling is done so well. Yeah I was expecting a tad more especially with the Thor and Odin fights, but it still deserves the scores and praise and is overall a better game than 2018 for me

Could it have been better? Sure. But it's a massive upgrade and the only reason you can't really see that much in motion is because the game has an incredible artstyle.
But yeah, somehow it lost goty to Elden Ring because MUH GRAPHICS. Against this thing

While my 2022 game of the year was God of War Ragnarok, I have no issues with Elden Ring winning. Having friends who have played through the entire game multiple times and explaining to me why it's amazing game, I understand why it has won so many awards.
Ask him if the PS5 version is next-Gen or not, that’ll be good for a laugh!

My friend group all played Elden Ring, one of them described it as a game that "revolutionized gaming" for him. But he doesn't play many games so I could only smile and nod at him. But to be honest, I can understand it a bit, only people who have played a lot of games will really feel the flaws that the game does have deeply.

It's like when your favourite band becomes mainstream and everybody thinks it's the new hot shit but it's actually their fifth album with the same sound.
They don't know Demons Souls in 2009 was literally the exact same formula (without the open world obviously). Poor them.
The formula is good and unique to FROM games but there's still like 10 games by now.
It is obvious not using next-gen features... it is heavy grounded on PS4.
Even Santa Monica's developer said so and Digital Foundry conclusion lead to the same.
