No, they're a THQN studio.

Ouch, I hope Gunfire gets out from underneath the Embracer scam. This house is collapsing quick.

The fun part will be when Sony gets Eidos at firesale price and becomes the developer of Microsoft’s reboot of Nintendo’s Perfect Dark … 🤣

Horrible analogy
Its not. Embracer has been getting offers for Gearbox. Gunfire Games is not part of Gearbox. Buying Gearbox does not mean you get the Remnant franchise or the team that made the game since that is THQN IP being made by a THQN studio.

If you buy dogs you do not get a lion.

If you buy a clue, will you still post drivel?

It makes sense. Gearbox is just the publisher of Remant 2.

If they sell Gearbox, Embracer will keep the studio and IP of Remant.

I'm not sure who keeps the publishing rights of Remant 2.

It's a mess.

Essentially, all studios owned by Embracer are like a box of hamsters. There isn't really any real structure beyond Embracer owns them all.

This is the dumbest shit you've said all week, and thats a high bar to reach.

He's right though? Up til at least recently Embracer exerts very little executive control of the game dev process in the studios they own

They exert very little control over their business units, ergo those units are where the power is concentrated, especially for the acquired groups like Gearbox and Saber vs the homegrown ones like THQN and Plaion. That doesn't mean that THQN is more similar or closely inter-twined with Gearbox, it means it is less so.

I don't get why you're so hung up on the semantics of this. Both of you said true statements.

Bloomberg is in with either a different take on the news or an update, btw. They say Embracer is actively looking to sell or spin it off. Among other things, Bloomberg got to see some internal e-mails and this is a direct quote from those:

“The base case is that Gearbox remains a part of Embracer,” wrote Gearbox Chief Communications Officer Dan Hewitt in an email to staff seen by Bloomberg. “However, there are many options under consideration, including Gearbox’s transfer, taking Gearbox independent, and others. Ultimately, we’ll move ahead with whichever path is best for both Gearbox and Embracer.”

I know we're about a decade off from Gearbox's height with BL 1 and 2 but thats still a bad idea in my opinion. The more I look at it, the more I think that THQN, Darkhorse and especially Plaion are the bad units, while Gearbox, CDE, Saber, Asmodee and Coffee Stain are the good ones. I mean, I guess it makes sense to sell off the odd duck (if you want to invest in AAA, buy Gearbox, if you want to invest in AA buy Embracer) but eh... weren't they going to double down on IP and potential? Surely Gearbox has that in spades?
