SID: Happy to have you, we’re going to do a lot of catching up. But I heard you had some news for us here today?

SHU: Yes, I have an announcement to make. I’m leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15 2025… it’s like announcing the launch date of a new game, [something] I haven’t done for a long time [laughs].

Oh crap too slow...

One of the architects of the success of PlayStation and an industry giant. He will be missed.

And he’s not retiring, he said he will be part of the industry after leaving SIE.

It's sad, but sadly people gets old and at some time has to retire (he's 60 years old).

I wish him the best, we got a lot of fun with many games thanks to him.

he was the one behind Stellar Blade, Hermen on the other hand was the one behind Concord
No.

As head of PlayStation Indies, while scouting indies Yoshida found Stellar Blade and forwarded it to Hermen/PS Studios. Hermen, head of PS Studios, signed it as a 2nd party game. Hermen is the one in charge of 1st & 2nd party games like Sterllar Blade, Yoshida is in charge of supporting 3rd party indies instead.

Sony started to work with Concord in 2018, when Shuhei Yoshida (not Hermen) was the head of PS Studios. Yoshida was the one who greenlighted Concord, not Hermen (who became head of PS Studios in November 2019).

Expected! I was expecting him to be gone by 2026 so a year earlier. Great guy through and through and I fear for the indie initiative going forward and his good eye for always scooping up 3rd party content.

But he was gonna retire PS4 era, so he stuck around pretty long.

He’s not retiring though, he said so himself.
No, he didn't say that he'll move to other company. He said he's leaving SIE after 31 years.

And he's 60 years old, at that age it would be hard to believe that he'd start an new company or that would joing another one from the competition. He's too old, make sure he will retire.

He may stay in some industry association stuff, like DICE, or the organization of TGS, or something like that. In the industry but outside the stress of making games.

you just confirmed Shu was behind Stellar Blade, if it wasn't for him there would be no game as we know it
