Jim appointed Shu to do the PS Indies initiative for PS5 to scout projects/talent.

Yoshida was in Korea scouting games where Kim the CEO of Shift-Up approached him to show Project Eve. Kim has stated this himself lol, why do you think Jim was randomly in Korea/Asia signing deals before his farewell party those were thanks to Yoshida.

He did an excellent job on the PS Indies front and often people overlook those titles talking about PS5 gen.
He could'v continued for years, maybe he felt sidelined or underutilised. He was one of the few left with weight to pushback with his credentials.

Could also be the support system from the old guard being gone, he felt it's time to go as well and pass the baton at SIE no better time than the 30th anniversary.
