Not all those care for all the pandering.
Everybody hurts in the economy at this point, soon more industries will do layoffs.
Obviously, if you make a bad product DEI hiring will only make it worse, and if your product was good but you have some blue aired lady, that belongs in an asylum, running around telling your creative team to "MAKE IT A GIRL AND MAKE HER GAY" it may just break it.
I am very sexist, but I love the ladies in the kitchen, so no hate!

I'm annoyed by the negative way "representation" is made, it should happen, sometimes.
Obviously, idgaf if all guys are swapped by Tifa in all games forever.

Part of the reason for the layoffs in game development is the bad economy.
Another part is the fact that the whole market shrunk in 2023 for the first time since the crash of '83 and the population of young people in developed countries is shrinking fast, China is in the process of isolating itself from the West, so they know the market is only going to get thinner within the next few decades.
Another part is the result of Covid's over-hiring that lead to a bunch of people getting hired to do nothing.
But the one thing everyone knows is how the most redundant jobs are the ones related to DEI hiring and policies, and that crowd is being let go at a much faster rate than everyone else.
For f sake, the whole market didn't shrunk. Look at the numbers. Just because it isn't growing as in covid years doesn't mean it is shrinking, crashing or whatever these companies trying make excuses for with galore or PR.
Yes, let's look at the numbers.
Factor in inflation and you get consumption numbers equivalent to 2019, pre-covid.
The trending is downwards, so publishers are now adapting to a new reality which is that the market isn't expanding anymore. There's no point in making an increasing number of games because neither are people going to have more money nor is there much more people joining the market.
That's why they're cancelling so many games, and firing so many of the people that were working on those games.

I agree, DEI is eyeroll territory, not "ruining everything and a threat to freedom" territory. And not eyeroll because it's necessarily wrong, but that it's largely a meaningless gesture.
