Sales of " Pokémon Scarlet Violet ' for Nintendo Switch (Nintendo Switch), released on November 18, 2022, have surpassed 8.3 million units in Japan, making it the highest-selling ' Pokémon" series game in Japan. (*Sales figures are as of November 18, 2024.)

Until now, " Pokémon Red and Green ' was the best-selling title in the ' Pokémon " series in Japan. This is the first time in the series' 28-year history that the record has been broken. Pokemon Red and Green" was released on February 27, 1996, and is the origin of the ' Pokemon ' serie

Easily the worst pokémon game and it somehow sold 20m copies
Sword/Shield is worse
  • less Pokemon variety
  • more linear
  • villain motivations don't make sense
  • wild area is a half-baked version of what Scarlet/Violet does with its whole map
Scarlet/Violet lets you fight the gyms in any order of your choice, and you can go to areas with higher level Pokemon early on if you desire. The villain was actually a pretty difficult fight and had some great buildup, and the tragedy surrounding one of the character's parents being gone forever is heartwrenching.

I'd argue Red/Blue/Green are also worse due to how buggy they are but they're ancient so I guess that's not really fair to them.

Sword and Shield at least worked. This game barely reaches 30 fps
