[Weekly sales of software and hardware] Nintendo titles such as "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" dominate the top! “ARK: Survival Ascended” also entered the top 10 [4/15-4/21]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu, this time we bring you a summary of estimated weekly game software and hardware sales from April 15th to April 21st, 2024. This week Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Princess Peach Showtime! and Super Mario Bros. Wonder which were all at the top last week, all moved up to occupy the top three spots.

Following in fourth place there are many titles that enjoy cooperative/competitive play and in-game interaction such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo Switch Sports and Splatoon 3. As the new year approaches many people may be using these titles as a means of communication in a new environment.

Among these I would like to pay attention to the new work ARK: Survival Ascended, which came in 9th place. This title is a full remake of the open world dinosaur survival action game ARK: Survival Evolved using Unreal Engine 5. In addition to improved graphics, this is a game with numerous system improvements.

How much impact will the upcoming long holidays have on software and hardware sales? This is also a matter of concern.

Brutal 2024 for PlayStation in Japan.

Why is the PS5 selling so little in 2024 in comparison to 2023?

Meanwhile the Switch is selling about the same.

Sony needs to drop a new handheld. a xbox handheld could become a real problem in Japan

Yeah PS5 sales are definitely stagnating in Japan, and it's possible they could drop by another 5K. But I really can't see it treading below 15K weekly over there.

That said, at least Ronin is holding well. It'd be doing even better if there were a PS4 version tho, or if PS5 were performing better in the Japanese market.

The yen has frankly cratered, for sony to do discounts they would have to take 100-150$ hit. Frankly I even doubt the switch is being bought by the citizens there, its easy to make profit by buying in Japan and selling it overseas due to shitty USD to Yen exchange rate

The need to drop the price.

Hopefully they aren't gonna wait for the pro to drop before dropping the price, otherwise it's gonna be a slow few months for sales.
