I mean it’s Weird that the ps5 isn’t selling that well in Japan. But on the other hand it’s expected even With Spider-Man it’s still got some catching up to do. This console gen hasn’t been the greatest either when you get bombs like cyberpunk or starfield then yeah no wonder sales are slowing down.

It's not a slowdown on demand. They have come to the end of OG PS5 supply and are getting ready for the new slim PS5 model.

As other said on the last page. No need to worry, PS5 is outpacing PS4 in Japan.

Spiderman is bigger than Mario as an IP. Those sales outside of Japan aren't surprising.
Not true.

Units sales in France for the first 3 days, the chart above was based on revenue.
Mario Wonder - 170k
Spiderman 2 - 120k

Spain after 2 weeks.
Mario Wonder - 87k
Spiderman 2 - 63k

Germany 3 days of sales
Mario Wonder - third best opener of the year below Zelda TOTK and EA FC 2024
Spiderman 2 - ??

Italy chart above wasn't included Mario wonder digital sales.

At the end of the year we're going to see something like this
Mario Wonder - 16 million units
Spiderman 2 - 10 million units

Gotcha so people are willing to pay more for Spiderman, meaning it's a bigger IP. If you don't measure by revenue then you may as well consider Starfield's 10 million GP downloads as big as Zelda's 10 mil sales.

That's why it's important to look at the operating profits of the company to see whether those games are profitable or not.

First half of 2023 operating profits
Nintendo - $2.05bn
PlayStation - $0.65bn

2022 operating profits
Nintendo - $4bn
Mihoyo(Genshin Impact) - $2.2bn
PlayStation - $1.9bn

Yes, dear, Nintendo has low costs due to outdated hardware so the gap between that and their revenue is higher.

You want to get back on topic?

did you forget that Sony made a $4bn acquisition which will be reflected in a decrease in operating profits?
