Same thing they did with Red X13. They needed to force him into the party unlike the O.G where he was entirely optional.

Sorry I typed that wrong Red wasn't optional just Vincent and Yuffie.

They are going to do the same to Vincent as Red XIII was in the Remake part 1. He'll be an assist character but not directly controllable.
